Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear David,
I hope you are doing well.
It has been ten years to see you and our other friends since we left the college. That's why I was thinking why don't we meet on 10th year anniversary and celebrate our special occassion. In this way, we could meet our friends and get to know about each other's current life. It could be a great chance to introduce our life partners to everone. I think we should organize two days event on 1st and 2nd March in Magdeburg only, where we spent four years together and made so many memories.
In this two days, we could arrange one session at universities's auditorium where everyone can get a chance to share brief update about themselves. we could also play some kind of fun games to extend bondings with each other. We can arrange our lunch and dinner at collegs's canteen area. On the next day we can do one day trip to Harz near to Magdebrug. In this way, we could spend enough time with our classmates and remember our old memories.
I know you still have a good connections with principal in the college. With the help of prinipal can you please book an auditorium for the 1st March. I also need contact details of some of our classmates.
If you have any other idea to elevate this celebration please let me know.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt, satisfying the requirements for a general correspondence task. You clearly specify the type of event you would like to organise, suggesting a two-day gathering in Magdeburg that includes an auditorium session and a day trip to Harz. You also explain why this format is beneficial, noting that it provides a great chance to reconnect with friends, learn about their current lives, and introduce life partners. Furthermore, you describe the help needed by asking David to book the auditorium through his college connections and request contact details for other classmates. While some ideas like the activities are outlined well, certain parts could be slightly more extended to fully reach a higher tier, but overall the purpose and tone are appropriate and well maintained throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. You begin with an appropriate opening greeting and a friendly tone, moving naturally into the purpose of the letter. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate different aspects of your plan, such as the event details, the specific schedule in the second paragraph, and the request for help in the third paragraph. Cohesive devices are used adequately to guide the reader, for example, using phrases like 'In this way' and 'On the next day' to sequence information clearly. Although referencing and cohesion are generally clear, occasional mechanical links prevent the flow from being entirely seamless, keeping the overall structure solid and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'anniversary', 'auditorium', and 'elevate'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, awkward word choices, and spelling slips that prevent a higher score. For example, writing '10th year anniversary' instead of '10-year anniversary', 'occassion' with a spelling error, 'universities's' with incorrect apostrophe placement, and 'collegs's' instead of 'college's'. Additionally, collocations like 'extend bondings' and 'good connections' could be expressed more naturally. While these errors do not impede communication, they reflect a limited precision in word choice and spelling control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Your writing shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures such as conditional and modal constructions like 'we could arrange' and 'If you have any other idea'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in verb tenses, prepositions, and articles that place the response at this level. For instance, writing 'It has been ten years to see you' is unnatural and grammatically imprecise compared to 'It has been ten years since I saw you'. Other errors include 'ten days event' instead of 'two-day event', omitting articles before nouns ('with principal'), and minor preposition slip-ups. These errors persist throughout the text, although they rarely impede overall communication.
