Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Karan,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to inform you that It has been ten years since we all left our college and I would like to organise an event to celebrate this moment.

I would like to organise a pool party which will include dancing, singing and finally dinner. This is because some of us like to dance and sing. Therefore, it would be a great platform to showcase skills.

The reason behind celebrating this special moment at a pool is that it has a sufficient space for the gathereing and can accumulate all of us. Moreover, it is a long weekend, so nobody has to take a special day off. Additionally, the pool is situated at the countryside, the loud music will not disturb the neighbours.

Although I have planned everthing, I want you to invite everyone because i am planning to make a surprise visit. Therefore, if you could manage to invite everybody personally, I will surprise everyone and want to record their reactions.

Looking forward to hearing from you with a quick and positive response.

Regards,

Rishav

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You successfully cover all requirements of the prompt by explaining that you want to organise a pool party, giving reasons why this is a good idea, and describing the specific help you need from Karan. Your ideas are relevant and clearly address the purpose of the letter, reflecting a solid grasp of the task. However, to reach a higher level, some of your points could be expanded further with more vivid detail, such as elaborating more on why the pool venue is ideal beyond just space and logistics. The tone is appropriately friendly and consistent throughout the letter, and all bullet points from the prompt are clearly presented.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

Your letter has a clear overall progression and logical arrangement, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct point like the event type, reasons, and help needed. You make use of standard cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'Moreover', and 'Additionally' to link your ideas together. While this creates a coherent flow, some of the referencing and transitions feel slightly mechanical rather than entirely natural. Paragraphing is used correctly to structure the letter, and the opening and closing conventions are handled appropriately. To improve further, you could vary your cohesive devices to make the connections between sentences feel less formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using functional terms like 'celebrate', 'showcase skills', and 'surprise everyone'. You attempt some less common vocabulary such as 'accumulate' and 'countryside', though there are minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as using 'accumulate' instead of 'accommodate' for people. There are also a few spelling slips, notably 'everthing' instead of 'everything' and 'gathereing' instead of 'gathering'. These minor errors do not impede communication, but eliminating them and incorporating more precise lexical chunks would elevate your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You display a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, successfully using structures like 'Although I have planned everthing, I want you to...' and conditional clauses. There are some grammar and punctuation errors present, such as the capitalisation slip in 'that It has been' and a missing preposition in 'situated at the countryside' instead of 'in the countryside'. However, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow your message with ease. Your control of verb tenses is generally sound, and you demonstrate a good foundational command of sentence structure.
