Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, successfully covering the ten-year anniversary reunion. You mentioned the kind of celebration event you would like to organise, explaining that a dinner party at a restaurant would be ideal because everyone is free at this time. You also described the help you need by asking Ali for contact numbers and restaurant recommendations. However, some ideas are somewhat under-developed or repetitive, such as the explanation of why a dinner party is good. To reach a higher band, you should expand more fully on the reasons and provide greater detail for each bullet point rather than keeping the descriptions brief.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear purpose and a recognizable letter format, beginning with a standard salutation and ending appropriately. Paragraphs are used to separate different points, such as the type of event, reasons, and requests for help. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by mechanical or faulty cohesion, and referencing is not always clear. For instance, transitional phrases between sentences are sparse, making the text feel a bit disjointed in places. To improve coherence, you should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more smoothly to link your sentences and ideas together logically.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
An adequate vocabulary is used for the task, allowing you to communicate your message about organizing a reunion. You make attempts at less common vocabulary, but there are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, such as 'writting' instead of writing, 'resturant' instead of restaurant, 'ofen' instead of often, and 'marriad' instead of married. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they are frequent enough to restrict your score. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary with greater precision, improve your spelling accuracy, and demonstrate better control of word forms and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence forms in your letter. However, there are noticeable errors in grammar, verb forms, and punctuation throughout the text. For example, sentences such as 'I am writting to tell you about It has been ten years...' contain structural confusion, and phrases like 'I am decided that I organize' show incorrect verb tenses and passive/active voice misuse. Punctuation is also weak, with missing commas and run-on phrasing in places. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they are frequent. To progress, you need to increase your accuracy with verb tenses, article usage, and sentence structures.
