Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Friends,
I hope you are all in good health. I am writing this letter to meetup of all our old buddies from college.
It has been ten years since we left our college. I know now everyone is busy in their hectic schedule of their job. So I decide to arrange an get together event this long weekend. You all know that we made many promise to get in touch after completion of our study and sudden I realised that meeting in person is more better way than face time video call.
I recelty get in touch with our principle and he allow us to arrange an event in our college party hall so it is exiting news for all of us. We can rewind our old memory togehter at the place where we studied together. And we are going to celebrate with our partner because we all are now married so. We could take a college tour with our partners so they can introduce each other and can be a good friends like us.
At the last, I need help to buy some party stuff so please come at friday evening if possible for anyone so we could decore hall with our old photographs and other stuff.
I am waiting for you positive response.
Yours lovingly,
Om Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You successfully address all parts of the prompt by stating the kind of celebration event, explaining why it is a good idea, and describing the help needed. For instance, you mention arranging a get-together in the college party hall during the long weekend to rewind old memories and bring partners along, and you ask for help with buying party stuff and decorating the hall. However, some ideas remain under-developed or briefly stated without sufficient elaboration. For example, the explanation regarding the college tour and introducing partners is introduced rapidly rather than fully explored. To move higher, you need to expand and extend all your main points with richer supporting details and clearer elaboration throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear purpose and a standard informal letter format, greeting the reader and closing appropriately. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'So', 'And', and 'At the last', which help connect your thoughts. However, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as addressing the letter to 'Dear Friends' while the prompt asks you to write to 'one of your college friends', creating a mismatch in tone and audience focus. Furthermore, some cohesive devices feel mechanical or repetitive. To achieve a higher band, you need to ensure smoother logical progression between paragraphs and use a wider, more flexible range of cohesive devices without relying on repetitive connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your basic message about organizing a college reunion. You attempt some less common vocabulary items and functional phrases like 'hectic schedule', 'get together event', and 'reminisce', though this is accompanied by noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, form, and spelling. For instance, phrases like 'meetup of all our old buddies' instead of 'meet up with', 'recelty' instead of 'recently', 'principle' instead of 'principal', 'exiting' instead of 'exciting', 'memory' instead of 'memories', and 'decore' instead of 'decorate' show persistent slips. These errors do not completely block communication, but they restrict your score because they cause occasional strain for the reader. To improve, you should focus on accurate spelling, precise word forms, and natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I know now everyone is busy in their hectic schedule of their job' and 'We could take a college tour with our partners so they can introduce each other'. There are, however, some errors in grammar and punctuation present throughout the text, including tense consistency issues like 'So I decide to arrange' instead of 'decided', preposition use such as 'busy in their hectic schedule', and article errors such as 'an get together event'. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and your meaning generally remains clear. To reach a higher level, you must increase your control over complex sentence structures, ensure correct verb tense consistency, and minimize errors in articles and prepositions.
