Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Rahul,
I'm writing to let you know that I am organising an event to celebrate our ten year college graduation anniversary. I am planning to invite all our batch mates along with a few of our teachers with whome I am still in touch with.
There is a farm house near our college called Nikunj Farm Palace. They can accomodate all hundred of us on the first of next month at six. It has a massive pool where we can enjoy the evening. Catering service and drinks are arranged by the farm house itself.
I have been planning to organise our reunion for a long time. I believe tenth anniversary is the perfect opportunity for this. We will get to reconnect with all our friends with whome we have lost touch with. We will also get the change to recollect our memories of the past.
I am still not able to connect with Riya and Roopal. As you guys were tight in college, if you could invite them on my behalf that would be great. Looking forward to seeing you at the party.
Cheers,
Siddharth

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You successfully address all parts of the task by clearly outlining the plan for the ten-year college graduation anniversary. Your purpose is evident from the beginning, and you maintain an appropriate semi-formal tone suitable for writing to a college friend. You clearly describe the kind of celebration event you would like to organise, specifying the farm house venue, the date, and the inclusion of batch mates and teachers. Furthermore, you explain why a tenth anniversary is a great opportunity to reconnect and recollect memories, and you explicitly state the help you need regarding inviting Riya and Roopal. All bullet points are well covered, and your ideas are extended and supported effectively throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. You make effective use of paragraphing to structure your thoughts, devoting distinct paragraphs to the venue details, the motivation behind the reunion, and the specific request for help. You use cohesive devices flexibly and appropriately, such as transitional phrases like 'There is a farm house', 'I have been planning', and 'As you guys were tight in college'. Referencing is managed well, ensuring that the reader can easily follow the sequence of ideas and understand who the pronouns refer to, resulting in a cohesive and easy-to-read piece of communication.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary with some flexibility and precision to complete the task comfortably. You successfully attempt less common items and phrasal structures, such as 'batch mates', 'reconnect', and 'recollect our memories'. However, there are a few minor spelling and word choice inaccuracies, such as writing 'farm house' as two words instead of 'farmhouse', using 'accomodate' which contains a spelling error ('accommodate'), and writing 'change' instead of 'chance' in the phrase 'get the change to recollect'. Additionally, the repeated phrasing 'with whome' contains a minor spelling slip. These occasional lexical errors prevent the vocabulary score from reaching a higher level, though communication is never impeded.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
You show good control of grammar and punctuation, employing a variety of complex sentence structures alongside simpler forms. You produce frequent error-free sentences, such as 'I am still not able to connect with Riya and Roopal' and 'Looking forward to seeing you at the party.' Your control of verb tenses and forms is generally strong, successfully managing the present continuous, present perfect, and modal verbs. While there are a few minor errors—such as the relative pronoun usage in 'teachers with whome I am still in touch with' (where 'whom' is misspelled and the preposition placement creates a slightly conversational double preposition pattern)—these persistent minor errors do not interfere with understanding, and the majority of your sentences remain accurate.
