Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your response successfully addresses all parts of the task by covering the type of celebration event, explaining why it would be good to celebrate in this way, and describing the help you need. You present a clear purpose throughout the letter, which shows a solid grasp of the general training format. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the explanation of why celebrating the ten-year anniversary on Independence Day is a good idea is slightly repetitive and could have been extended with clearer reasoning about reconnecting on campus. To reach a higher band, all parts of the prompt would need deeper and more seamless elaboration without relying on repetitive phrasing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

Your letter demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear beginning, middle, and end, using standard paragraphing to structure your thoughts effectively. You successfully transition between discussing the event details, the reasons for gathering, and the specific help required from your friend. However, the cohesion can occasionally feel mechanical or slightly faulty, such as in the third paragraph where the flow is disrupted by repetitive phrasing and minor sequencing issues. Referencing is mostly clear, but pronouns like 'which' and 'so' are sometimes overused to string clauses together rather than creating smooth, logical transitions. To improve, you should employ a wider and more natural variety of cohesive devices to guide the reader effortlessly through your ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your message about organising a college reunion. You attempt less common vocabulary items such as 'anniversary cake cutting ceremony' and 'event planning', but there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocations, such as 'give assit me in organing' and 'booking a catering'. Spelling errors, including 'thier', 'experinece', 'whihc', 'assit', and 'organing', are present and occasionally distract from the reading experience, though they do not impede communication. To achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate a wider range of lexical items with greater precision, better control of word forms, and error-free spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout your letter, attempting relative clauses and conditional structures. There are several errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('invite to a get together party', 'booking a catering'), incorrect prepositional usage, and run-on sentences with comma splices. For example, the sentence 'Its been 10 years that we haven;t met each other whihc is a long time so I feel now is the best time...' contains multiple punctuation and structural issues. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede overall communication. To move up to the next band, you should aim for a higher proportion of error-free complex sentences and exercise better control over punctuation and article usage.
