Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear John,
How're you? I hope you're fit as a fiddle. I am excited to inform you that I am planning to celebrate the ten-year anniversary of our graduation.
Furthermore, taking about the party, I am planning to organize a farewell. In this occasion, not only our friends, but also their spouses and offspring will be invited. In this event, we will organise ram walk, musical chairs, dance and many more thing along with some starters and ending with the dinner.
Since the day we left the college, we never met with each other.I miss the days when we all enjoy the college life. So, Farewell would be a better way to meet with each other.
If you don't mind I want your help in deciding the location, where we can schedule this event.I initially thought to organize in calgary. What you think? Keep in mind it must be neare to the airport so that no one face the trouble to reach the side.
I hope to hearing from you soon
Best wishes,
Ramandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You successfully cover all parts of the prompt by explaining the kind of event, the reasons behind it, and the help you need with the location. However, certain aspects are more fully developed than others. For instance, the details regarding the venue choice in Calgary are clear, but the description of the event itself contains some confusion, as calling a ten-year reunion a 'farewell' is contradictory and under-developed. To reach a higher level, all bullet points should be elaborated with consistent clarity and logical consistency throughout the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your letter presents a coherent overall arrangement, and the paragraphing is generally appropriate for organizing your thoughts into clear sections, such as greeting, purpose, reasons, help needed, and sign-off. Nevertheless, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, transitional phrases like 'Furthermore, taking about the party' feel awkward, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as shifting abruptly between ideas about activities and the venue. Ensuring smoother logical transitions between sentences would elevate your organizational skills.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully attempting less common expressions such as 'fit as a fiddle'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors that prevent a higher score, such as writing 'taking about' instead of 'talking about', 'ram walk' instead of 'ramp walk', and 'neare' with a spelling error. While these inaccuracies do not seriously impede communication, refining your phrasing and checking word forms will make your writing much more precise and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over basic structures and punctuation in sentences like 'I initially thought to organize in calgary.' However, there are some errors in grammar and punctuation that surface throughout the letter, such as missing articles ('reach the side', 'ending with the dinner'), preposition errors ('married with each other' or 'face the trouble'), and tense or auxiliary slips like 'I hope to hearing'. These errors rarely impede communication, but eliminating them and increasing the proportion of error-free complex sentences is necessary to progress.
