Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Tanu,
Hope you are doing well! I am writing this to tell you that I would like to organise an event in order to celebrate our ten years ago memories with all our friends and classmates from college.
I would like to throw a small party at one of the esteemed hotel, namely Taj Hotel. The celebration would includes games, music, and most importantly food of various types such as Chineese, Mexican and Italian.
The major reason behind this get together is to bring all those nostalgic feelings back about our free-minded days. As you know, thesedays everyone has hectic lifestyle, owing to this they hardly get a chance to talk to each others. I believe that we all would get a break from our monotonous life because of this celebration.
For making all these arrangement, I seek for your assistance. While I am in touch with most of all classmates, I want you to make a list of invitation which will include their contact numbers so that I would not miss anybody.
Hope to hear from you and let me know if you want to suggest anything regarding this event.
Best regards,
Sukh.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt by explaining the kind of celebration event, giving reasons for choosing this format, and requesting specific help with organising. The writer outlines a small party at the Taj Hotel featuring games, music, and diverse food options. The reasons for the get-together are clearly extended, touching on the idea of bringing back nostalgic feelings and escaping a monotonous lifestyle. While the ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, certain points such as the detailed food types could have been slightly more integrated into the overall rationale, showing a tendency to over-generalise typical features of college reunions. Nevertheless, all bullet points are addressed with a clear tone and purpose throughout the letter, fully satisfying the requirements for this level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter exhibits a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are presented in a sensible order, moving naturally from the opening greeting and purpose of writing to the specific details of the event, the underlying reasons, the call for assistance, and the closing remarks. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, such as the event description, the rationale, and the request for help. Cohesive devices are employed flexibly, with connectors like 'The major reason behind', 'As you know', and 'owing to this' guiding the reader smoothly through the text, although occasional minor awkwardness in transitional flow prevents the response from reaching a higher category.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The vocabulary used provides a sufficient range to convey the message with adequate precision and flexibility. The writer successfully attempts some less common lexical items and collocations, such as 'esteemed hotel', 'nostalgic feelings', and 'monotonous life'. However, there are some noticeable slips in word form, spelling, and collocation, including 'ten years ago memories' instead of 'ten-year anniversary memories', 'esteemed hotel' instead of 'esteemed hotel', 'Chineese' misspelling, and 'make a list of invitation' rather than 'invitation list'. These occasional lexical errors do not impede communication, but they reflect the characteristics of a competent yet developing range of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating structures such as 'I am writing this to tell you that...' and conditional or causal clauses like 'As you know, thesedays everyone has hectic lifestyle, owing to this they hardly get a chance...'. There is good control over basic punctuation and sentence boundaries, though several grammatical errors persist, including article omissions ('at one of the esteemed hotel', 'everyone has hectic lifestyle', 'to each others'), pluralisation slips ('ten years ago memories'), and run-on phrasing ('owing to this they hardly get a chance'). These errors are generally non-systematic and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the intended meaning without difficulty.
