Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the main parts of the task by mentioning a reunion party at home, explaining why it is a good way to celebrate, and asking for help with planning and contact details. However, some bullet points are only partially developed and lack specific detail. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met as the text contains only 136 words, falling short of the 150-word minimum. To reach a higher band, all parts of the prompt would need fuller extension and the response must meet the minimum word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation evident in the letter, as the writer attempts to follow the standard format of greeting, body points, and sign-off. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression and paragraphing is inadequate, with most of the ideas clumped into a single block of text. Cohesive devices are also basic and repetitive, such as the overuse of 'so' and 'and'. To improve, the writer needs to use logical paragraph breaks for each main topic and employ a wider, more accurate range of cohesive links.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and word formation, such as 'oragnising', 'basicly', 'celebratethis', 'contect', and 'lovinly'. These errors and spelling mistakes cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range, demonstrate better control over less common vocabulary, and improve overall spelling accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty, such as in the sentence beginning with 'so, if i will oragnise...'. There are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and capitalization, including missing capital letters for names and the pronoun 'I', as well as tense inconsistencies like 'it had been ten years we left'. These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to employ a wider variety of grammatical structures with greater accuracy.
