Student answer (Band 6.0)

Hey Daji,

I feel great to tell you that I'm planning to organize re-union party at city banquite hall. It's been a decade since the last day of our college.

You know what? I'm planning to book a hard-co sound system for the get-together party since our groupe is eagrly ready for the dance. Also, for dinner, a maxican catering would be the splindid choice for us.

In this busy life, we all are tired from our 9 to 5 jobs. so, this is the best chance for us to meet up and celebrate this special day with our best buddies. I think this is the superb time to get back to our memories and create new once.

Apart from this, I need your favour to design an invitation card since you are a professional designer. I'll send you all the require details of this event. Along with this, I feel happy if you can order 2kg vanila cake for the celebration.

let me know anything you need from my side, andI'm waiting for your positive response.

Yours lovingly,

Dhruv

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your letter covers all three bullet points required in the prompt. You successfully mention the kind of event you want to organise by suggesting a reunion party at a city banquet hall. You explain why it is a good way to celebrate by pointing out that busy 9-to-5 jobs make it a great chance to reconnect and relive college memories. Finally, you clearly describe the help you need, which includes designing an invitation card and ordering a cake. However, some ideas show a slight tendency towards under-development, such as briefly mentioning the sound system and Mexican catering without fully extending how these elements contribute to the overall celebration. To reach a higher level, you could expand more fully on all of your ideas, providing richer supporting details for each point while maintaining an appropriately friendly and informal tone throughout the entire letter.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

Your letter presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear purpose visible from the start. You have organised your writing into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs dealing with the event details and your need for help, and a polite sign-off. You make use of some basic cohesive devices and referencing words, such as 'Also', 'In this busy life', and 'Apart from this', which help guide the reader through your thoughts. Nevertheless, cohesion is at times a bit mechanical, and referencing is not always completely smooth, as seen in transitions between sentences. To achieve a higher score, you should ensure that cohesive devices are used more flexibly and naturally, and that your ideas flow seamlessly from one sentence to the next without abrupt shifts in focus.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using common everyday expressions alongside some less common items like 'celebrate', 'reunion', and 'professional designer'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that prevent you from reaching a higher band. For instance, 're-union' is misspelt, and you have spelling slips such as 'banquite' instead of banquet, 'groupe' instead of group, 'eagrly' instead of eagerly, 'maxican' instead of Mexican, 'splindid' instead of splendid, 'once' instead of ones, and 'vanila' instead of vanilla. Furthermore, phrases like 'hard-co sound system' contain unnatural lexical choices. To improve your lexical score, you need to work on spelling accuracy and use more precise collocations and word forms when attempting less common vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

Your response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating that you can construct compound sentences and use relative clauses, such as in 'since you are a professional designer'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede communication. Examples include 'I feel great to tell you' instead of 'I am glad to tell you', a missing capital letter and awkward phrasing in 'so, this is the best chance', and a punctuation/spacing issue in 'andI'm waiting'. To progress further, you need to reduce the frequency of minor structural and punctuation slips and demonstrate a more consistent command of complex sentence patterns with error-free clauses.
