Write a letter to one of your college friends. In your letter

• describe what help you need to organise this event
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Daji,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to let you know that I am thinking to organize a get-together party with the families and friends at the college campus.
As you know, it's been a decade that we are graduate from the college. Therefore, I am planning to organize a cake cutting ceremony by following up dinner with the light refreshments and a dance, wrapped party with the firework show at the end.
I believe that everyone joins party with their family member and it is a good way to introduce each other by having light refreshment and kids can enjoy their evening by watching fireworks.
I know that last year you throw ambitious fireworks party at a time of the New year eve. So if you can share details of that fireworks organizer. Also, last thing I am lacking to find a contact's directory of few people and if you can manage to let them know about party that will be really helpful.
I hope to see you soon at the party.
Yours lovingly,
Rushi.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You successfully cover all parts of the prompt, satisfying the requirements for a general correspondence task. You state the kind of celebration event you wish to organise, namely a get-together party on the college campus involving a cake-cutting ceremony, dinner, refreshments, a dance, and a fireworks show. You also explain why this is a good idea, mentioning that families can join and kids can enjoy the evening. Furthermore, you clearly describe the help you need by asking for a fireworks organizer contact and a contact directory. However, some ideas show slight under-development, such as the explanation for why this celebration format works well, which remains somewhat general. To move towards the higher bands, you would need to fully extend and support all your ideas with richer elaboration and a more natural, sustained tone appropriate for a letter to a friend.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression from introducing the idea to describing the event, explaining its benefits, asking for help, and concluding. You use standard paragraphing effectively to separate your thoughts, and your greeting and sign-off fit the letter format well. However, cohesion is at times a bit mechanical or faulty. For instance, transitional phrases like 'by following up dinner with' or 'wrapped party with' feel slightly awkward and interrupt the natural flow of ideas. Referencing could also be smoother, as seen in transitions between paragraphs where logical links rely on repetitive phrasing rather than varied cohesive devices. To achieve a higher band, you should ensure that cohesive devices are used more flexibly and unobtrusively to link sentences and paragraphs seamlessly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your message despite noticeable limitations and errors in word choice and collocation. You attempt some less common vocabulary items, such as 'get-together party', 'ceremony', and 'directory', but inaccuracies appear in phrases like 'we are graduate from the college', 'throw ambitious fireworks party', and 'lacking to find a contact's directory'. Additionally, there are minor lexical slips that highlight a restricted range. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate a wider and more flexible range of vocabulary, use less common lexical items with greater precision and stylistic awareness, and eliminate word choice and collocation errors that occasionally hinder natural expression.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You display a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout the letter, successfully attempting multi-clause structures such as conditional and relative clauses. There are some grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including verb tense and aspect errors like 'I am thinking to organize' instead of 'I am thinking of organizing', and 'it's been a decade that we are graduate'. Prepositions and article usage also contain errors, such as 'at a time of the New year eve'. However, these errors rarely impede overall communication, and your meaning remains clear. To improve your score in this area, you should work on increasing your frequency of error-free sentences, refining your control over complex sentence structures, and tightening your command of verb forms, prepositions, and articles.
