Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Katu Shyam,
It was great for me to see you again. I am writing this letter to take your help for organinsing an event for celebrating the anniversary.
I am planning some thing special or unique from our farewell party. I was to book small hotel room and decorate that room with myself and your assistance. In fact, breakfast, lunch and dinner will arranged in this party. Some outdoor games at night time and watch movies in the room where we all will seat together and eat popcons.
I deem that it would be a great if we will celebrate like this way as it will not more expensive and our all friends will spend time together in the cheaper budget with good facilities.
I need your small assistance as I short list some of the good hotels but I want someone you tell me which one is the best. Even before party I need one person who will check the arrangements and menu. As I will also busy for the other hurdles.
I am still waiting for your response.
Your lovingly,
Teenu Walia.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You successfully cover all parts of the task by stating what kind of event you want to organise, explaining why it would be a good way to celebrate, and describing the help you need. For instance, you mention booking a hotel room and organising meals, and you ask your friend to help choose the best venue and check arrangements. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. The explanation of why this celebration style is good—focusing on it not being too expensive—is somewhat basic and could have been extended with more detail about why a casual hotel gathering suits a ten-year college reunion. Overall, your purpose is clear and relevant points are presented, though a touch more depth on each bullet point would make the response more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear beginning and ending. You use standard paragraphing to separate your introduction, the details of the event, the reasons for your choice, and your request for help. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For example, transition phrases like 'In fact' and 'Even before party' feel a bit unnatural and do not always link your ideas smoothly. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the sudden shift from discussing food and movies to talking about hotel shortlisting without a strong logical bridge. To improve further, you should work on using a wider variety of natural cohesive devices to connect your sentences and paragraphs more fluidly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You demonstrate an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully communicating your core message. You attempt some less common vocabulary, such as 'anniversary', 'arrangements', and 'assistance'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that affect precision. For instance, you wrote 'organinsing' instead of organising, 'some thing' instead of something, and phrases like 'take your help' instead of 'ask for your help'. You also wrote 'cheaper budget' instead of 'tighter budget' or 'lower budget'. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they limit your control over word choice and collocation, keeping the vocabulary score at an adequate level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout the letter, such as 'I am writing this letter to take your help...' and 'I deem that it would be a great if we will celebrate like this way...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede communication. Noticeable mistakes include incorrect prepositions and verb forms, such as 'decorate that room with myself', 'breakfast, lunch and dinner will arranged', and 'as I short list some of the good hotels but I want someone you tell me'. Furthermore, the conditional structure 'if we will celebrate' contains an unnecessary auxiliary verb. To reach a higher level, you need to increase your control over complex sentence structures and reduce these frequent grammatical slips.
