Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response addresses the task only partially and falls significantly short of the required length, containing only 106 words against the 150-word minimum. While the writer attempts to cover the bullet points by mentioning a farmhouse celebration with a swimming pool and a DJ, the ideas are very limited and underdeveloped. Furthermore, there is confusion regarding the purpose of the event, as the writer refers to celebrating 'my Anniversary' rather than a ten-year college reunion. The position and purpose are not always clear, and the abrupt ending ('Furthermore,') shows that the letter is incomplete, leaving key parts of the task insufficiently expanded.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Information and ideas are not arranged coherently throughout the text. The letter lacks a clear overall progression, making it difficult for the reader to follow the sequence of thoughts. Although some basic cohesive devices and transition words are attempted, such as 'Moreover' and 'Although', they are used inaccurately and inappropriately for the context. Paragraphing is not managed effectively, and the abrupt trailing off at the end of the text severely disrupts the structural flow of the letter, preventing a logical progression of ideas from start to finish.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as '10 decade' instead of 'a decade' or 'ten years', and the misuse of 'Anniversary' to describe a college reunion. Other issues include awkward phrasing like 'enjoy the vide with him' and 'different chefs'. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a basic control of word choice and collocation, preventing the response from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors. Attempts at complex or compound structures are often faulty, such as in 'Its been 10 decade we never meet with each other as well as their college Friends.' There are frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, including 'we never meet' instead of 'have not met', 'their college Friends' instead of 'our college friends', and issues with article usage. These frequent errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader.
