Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Riya,
Hopefully, you and your family have been keeping well. It feels incredibly long since we last spoke! I writing this letter since I'm thinking of oraganising party to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of our collage leaving.
Understably, everyone won't be able to spend many days out of the city because of the hectic work schedule. Therefore, I'm planning to book resort for 2 days during weekends so everyone can join. Additionally, the meal will be included in the plan so we don't have to go somewhere else to eat.
According to me, this would be significantly memorable way to enjoy as we can sit inside and open up. Moreover, resort features many amenities ranging from movie theatre and swimming pool to outdoor and indoor playarea. Since, we have two days we can enjoy all of it and I am sure that we will not get bored.
I will make sure to book resort tickets by today; however, I need your help to book the ride so that we can go together while playing music and dancing.
Thank you so much for your support. If you need any help, you know where to find me!
your lovingly,
Preshna Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the kind of celebration event, explaining why it is a good choice, and describing the help needed from the friend. However, some ideas show a tendency to be slightly under-developed or lack full elaboration. For instance, the mention of booking a resort for two days is relevant and directly addresses the prompt, but the explanation of why it is a good choice relies on general statements rather than deeper exploration of how it reconnects the group. The tone is appropriately friendly and semi-formal, meeting the communicative requirements of a general letter well. To reach a higher level, the ideas would need to be more fully extended and supported with richer details regarding the event's activities and scheduling.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, logical progression from the initial greeting and purpose of the letter to the details of the event, the justification, and finally the request for assistance and sign-off. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating distinct topics into distinct blocks of text. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'however', though some of these transitional phrases feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in their placement. Referencing between sentences is generally clear, though occasional shifts in cohesion prevent the text from achieving a completely seamless flow. Overall, the structural organization successfully guides the reader through the correspondence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'hectic work schedule', 'amenities', and 'significantly memorable'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'oraganising', 'collage' instead of 'college', 'Understably', and the missing article in 'book resort'. Collocations are sometimes awkward, such as 'According to me' instead of 'In my opinion'. Despite these errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message clearly without impeding communication. To progress further, the writer needs to demonstrate greater precision in word choice, improved spelling control, and more natural collocations when attempting complex phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses and conditional-style reasoning effectively. There are some grammar errors present, such as 'It feels incredibly long since we last spoke!', missing articles in 'book resort' and 'book the ride', and a tense/aspect slip with 'I writing this letter'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, and prepositional patterns inside the sentences are mostly controlled. These errors are typical of this band level as they rarely impede communication and do not obscure the intended meaning. To achieve a higher score, the writer would need to produce a greater frequency of error-free complex sentences and eliminate basic omission errors regarding articles and auxiliary verbs.
