Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Nirmal,

It's been a long time we've talked to eachother. I hope you're doing well. I'm just writing to let you know that, it's been a decade since we graduated, so I'm wondering if we can have a celebration to recognise this milestone. This way we all can hang out and have some fun together.

I was thinking to meet up at hotel funkie, where we had our farewell party and of course, our go to spot for all the occasions. There we'll have dinner and will spend some quality time with eachother. Moreover, I was also thinking to relive the moments which we all enjoyed in our college life through a short film. At last, we can take some pictures as memories for next 10 years to celebarte.

I think this celebration will be a good reason to appreciate all the achievements we all had since last ten years. Also, many of us are going abroad for further studies so it will the best time for all of us to have fun together.

For all this planning I'll need your help as I'm not in contact with many of our classmates, so if you can make a whatsapp group and connect with all to let them know about our plan. And, I will work on compiling the video. Can't wait for this meetup!

With Love,

Anushka

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all the bullet points required by the task prompt. You clearly state the kind of celebration event you want to organise by suggesting a dinner and a short film at hotel funkie, explain why this is a good idea to appreciate past achievements and reconnect before people move abroad, and describe the help needed from Nirmal to create a WhatsApp group. The tone is appropriately friendly and informal for a general letter. However, some ideas could be extended further with more specific details to reach the highest levels. The purpose of the letter and your plans are presented clearly throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

Your letter shows a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from the greeting and introduction of the milestone to the specific venue and activities, the rationale behind the event, and finally the request for help. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Also', and 'At last' to connect your ideas, though occasionally these mechanical transitions could be used more flexibly. Paragraphing is used appropriately to group related thoughts, making the letter easy to follow from start to finish.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as 'recognise this milestone', 'relive the moments', and 'compiling the video'. There are a few vocabulary and spelling errors, such as 'eachother' instead of 'each other' and 'celebarte' instead of 'celebrate', but these do not impede communication. Word choice is generally appropriate for an informal letter to a friend, though incorporating more precise and sophisticated lexical items would elevate your writing further.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over your intended meaning. Examples such as 'I'm wondering if we can have a celebration to recognise this milestone' and 'if you can make a whatsapp group and connect with all to let them know about our plan' show your ability to form complex structures. There are some minor grammatical errors and punctuation slips, such as 'It's been a long time we've talked to eachother' missing a preposition, but these errors rarely impede communication and do not obscure your message.
