Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You successfully address all parts of the prompt by explaining that you want to organise a hotel party, giving reasons such as spending quality time together and taking memorable pictures, and asking your friend for help with contacting guests due to your new phone. However, some of these ideas are developed more fully than others. While the type of event and the request for help are clearly stated, the explanation of why celebrating in a hotel room is a good choice remains relatively simple and lacks deeper elaboration. To move to a higher level, you should extend your arguments with more detail, explaining how the venue and activities specifically help you reconnect after ten years apart.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure appropriate for a personal correspondence, moving from the greeting and opening news to the event details, your request for help, and a polite sign-off. However, the cohesion between ideas is sometimes mechanical or faulty. You rely heavily on basic linking words and run-on sentences without full stops, such as connecting multiple independent clauses with commas like in 'can you believe it ,it has been ten years'. Paragraphing is also not fully utilised to separate distinct topics clearly. To improve, ensure you use accurate punctuation to separate sentences and employ a wider variety of smooth cohesive devices to guide the reader effortlessly through your thoughts.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You demonstrate an adequate vocabulary range to communicate your basic message about organising a college reunion, successfully using relevant terms like 'celebrate', 'invitation', and 'anniversary'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as 'colledge', 'shampion' instead of champagne, 'becouse', and 'ohone'. Furthermore, your attempts at less common vocabulary are restricted by these frequent inaccuracies, which occasionally require the reader to pause and decipher your intended meaning. To reach a higher standard, you need to expand your control of word forms and spelling, ensuring that everyday and semi-formal lexical items are written correctly and used with natural collocation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and subordinate clauses like 'if you have no objection with that'. However, your writing contains a noticeable cluster of grammar and punctuation errors, including missing capitalisation at the beginning of sentences and proper nouns, incorrect tense usage in 'i has been long time', and comma splices that link separate thoughts incorrectly. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they occur with enough frequency to distract the reader. To achieve a higher level, you need greater control over basic sentence boundaries, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, ensuring that your grammatical structures are consistently accurate.
