Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sam,

How're you? I hope you're fit as a fiddle. It is been ten years since we completed our college. I am excited to tell you that I am planning to organize a reunion at our college campus, in which all our classmates will be invited to celebrate.

Furthermore, if I talk about the kind of celebration which I would like to organize. I am basically thinking of an evening party at our college campus, and dinner at a nearby restaurant.Last but not least, we will organize a ramb walk and dance together.

In this way, we can visit our classrooms, meet with our teachers and remember the old memories. Moreover, this would be a great chance to meet our old friends and talk to them, as everyone gets busy with their life and we only chat with each other through social sites.

If you have time and you don't mind, I need your help to call some of our friends and check whether they are willing to come or not, so that I can make a list of all. Moreover,I would like if you could gather some of our old photographs for slide show.

I am waiting for your response. Try to reply at your earliest convenience

Take care,

Raman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You have addressed all parts of the prompt successfully. You clearly stated the kind of celebration event you want to organise, explaining that it would involve an evening party on the campus and dinner at a nearby restaurant. You also explained why this celebration format is beneficial, noting that it allows attendees to revisit classrooms, meet former teachers, and reminisce about the past. Finally, you described the help you need by asking Sam to contact friends and gather old photographs for a slideshow. The response fully satisfies all bullet points with clear, relevant ideas, although certain points could have been extended slightly further to reach the higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and logical progression throughout. You made effective use of standard greeting and closing conventions, and paragraphs are generally used to separate different thoughts, such as the event description, the rationale, and the request for help. However, cohesion occasionally feels a bit mechanical with transitional phrases like 'Furthermore' and 'Last but not least' used in ways that do not always flow entirely naturally. Referencing is mostly clear, but the organization could be tightened further to demonstrate a more flexible and sophisticated use of cohesive devices typical of higher bands.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary range is adequate for the task. You successfully attempted some less common phrases, such as 'fit as a fiddle' and 'at your earliest convenience', which shows a good effort to use natural idiomatic language. However, there are some minor lexical and spelling inaccuracies that prevent a higher score, such as 'completed our college' instead of 'finished college' or 'graduated', and 'ramb walk' which contains a typographical error for 'ramp walk' or 'rambling walk'. Word choices generally communicate your meaning clearly without impeding the reader, but greater precision and fewer collocation slips are needed to progress further.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You demonstrated a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures appropriately, such as 'if I talk about the kind of celebration' and 'if you have time and you don't mind'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles and tense slips like 'It is been ten years', but these errors rarely impede communication and do not obscure the overall meaning. To achieve a higher score, you would need to produce a higher frequency of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over punctuation and auxiliary verb forms.
