Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Rupinder,
I hope you are doing well?
I am writing this letter to disccuss regarding an event that I will organise in the colleage in nect month as it is a decade since we left college.
I will organise different types of celebration events such as dance, motivational speeches, comedy dramas and so on.
The main reason is that spend quality time together as we all friends did not meet from a long period of time as this is good way to spend healthier time together along with fun.
Additionally, in this modern days human being especially younsters spend a lot of time on their cell phones instead of participating in physical activities and by doing this they can learn new skills and show their attitudes among event.
Lastly, I need some kinds of help such as donation as well as help students in dance practice as you are good coach.
See you soon.
Yours friend
Simran.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your response covers all the bullet points required in the prompt. You state the kind of celebration event you would like to organise, such as dance, motivational speeches, and comedy dramas. You also explain why you think it would be good to celebrate in this way, mentioning spending quality time together and participating in activities. Finally, you describe the help you need, asking for donations and help with dance practice. However, some of your ideas are under-developed or slightly unclear, such as the mention of youngsters using cell phones and showing attitudes among the event, which shifts focus slightly away from the core reunion purpose. To move further, you need to fully extend and support all your ideas with greater clarity and more relevant detail throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement and follows an appropriate informal letter format with a suitable opening and closing. You use basic paragraphing to separate your ideas, and your overall progression is generally understandable. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, and referencing is not always clear, such as in sentences like 'as this is good way to spend healthier time together' where the logical link feels a bit disjointed. To reach a higher level, you need to ensure that cohesive devices are used more flexibly and naturally, and that your ideas flow smoothly from one sentence to the next without abrupt transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items like 'motivational speeches' and 'donation'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the overall quality, such as 'disccuss regarding', 'colleage', 'nect', 'younsters', and 'spend quality time together as we all friends did not meet from a long period of time'. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they show a limited and sometimes inaccurate control of word choice and spelling. To improve, you should focus on expanding your precise vocabulary control, ensuring correct word forms, and carefully proofreading your spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Your letter shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating that you can attempt different structures. For instance, you successfully manage relative clauses and subordinate structures in sentences like 'I am writing this letter to discuss regarding an event that I will organise...'. However, there are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as the incorrect question mark in 'I hope you are doing well?' instead of a full stop, and prepositional patterns like 'disccuss regarding'. While these errors rarely impede communication, they represent a recurring pattern of mistakes. To achieve a higher band, you need to increase the proportion of error-free sentences and demonstrate better control over complex grammatical structures.
