Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the main purpose of the letter, which is to organise a ten-year college reunion. You successfully mention the kind of celebration event you would like to organise, such as making food and ordering pizza and burgers, and you describe some help needed, like ordering music speakers and creating a Facebook group. However, some ideas remain under-developed or lack clarity, particularly the explanation of why celebrating in this specific way would be good. The reasoning provided is somewhat limited, noting only that everyone is busy and needs time for friendship, without fully exploring the benefits of this particular approach. Your tone is generally appropriate for an informal letter to a friend, but the overall development of ideas prevents the response from reaching a higher level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter displays some organisation with an attempt at paragraphing, separating the main proposal from the request for help and logistical details. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression between sentences and ideas. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'Also' and 'So', which makes the transitions feel a bit mechanical. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the abrupt shift in topics within the first paragraph when moving from making food to busy schedules. To improve Coherence and Cohesion, you should ensure that ideas flow more naturally into one another and that a wider variety of cohesive devices are used to link sentences smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts. However, there are noticeable lexical errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. For example, terms like 'Suddnely' contain spelling mistakes, and phrases such as 'inviting all friends' lack parallel structure with the preceding verbs. Other expressions, such as 'take some time our friendship', are awkward and demonstrate non-standard collocation. To achieve a higher score in this criterion, you need to incorporate a wider range of less common vocabulary and demonstrate greater precision in word choice and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing relies on a limited range of sentence structures, primarily simple sentences combined with basic conjunctions. When you attempt more complex structures, they are often faulty, as seen in 'I am writing this letter you about I would like to an event' and 'everyone are busy', which contains a subject-verb agreement error. Frequent errors in grammar, verb forms, and prepositions persist throughout the letter, such as missing verbs and incorrect infinitive structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent in places. To improve, you should focus on increasing your grammatical accuracy in simple structures while developing better control over complex sentence patterns.
