Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear kuldeep,
I hope this letter finds you well. It's been 10 years since we had graduated and left college. Everyday life stress and responsibilities always remind me how stress free our college life was. Hence to refresh and feel back that nostalgia i would love to organise an event to celebrate this anniversary of hitting 10 years of graduation.
I want this celebration on bollywood enrty theme, Sounds fun to me where everyone dresses up according to any iconic character from movie. Sounds intresting right! Also to light-up the evening i will arrange bollywood music night followed by dinner.
However, Such theme based celebration is an excellent way to keep everyone engaged since everyone will meet after long gap. Bollywood music night is cherry on top, it always bring energy to the evening.
Since i have lost all the college connections i would really appreciate your efforts to make a list of all friends who is willing to join the evening. Rest i will take care.
This helps alot, looking forward to make this event come to life.
Best Regards
Vinit Shah

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three bullet points and maintain a suitable friendly purpose: you propose a Bollywood-themed reunion, explain that it will engage classmates and create an energetic evening, and ask Kuldeep to help reconnect with former classmates. The specific ideas about dressing as film characters, music and dinner make the plan clear. This meets the task well, while the explanation of why this format is especially suitable is less fully developed than the event description; for example, you could explain how the theme would prompt shared memories or make it easier for people to mingle. The request for help is clear, though adding a practical detail such as a deadline or preferred way to share the list would make the arrangements more complete. The response already shows some development beyond a basic outline, but not all ideas are equally extended.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall sequence: you reconnect with your friend, introduce the celebration, explain its appeal, and then ask for help. Paragraphing supports these stages, and linking expressions such as “Hence,” “However,” and “since” help show relationships between ideas. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “However” introduces a supporting reason rather than a contrast, and “This helps alot” does not clearly identify what “This” refers to. The opening paragraph also moves quickly from college nostalgia to the event proposal. To improve progression, use transitions that match the relationship between ideas and make references explicit—for example, specify that Kuldeep’s help with contacting classmates would be valuable. Overall, the organisation is coherent, though cohesion is occasionally mechanical or unclear.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a personal invitation, including relevant expressions such as “iconic character,” “theme-based celebration,” “engaged,” and “cherry on top.” These choices help convey enthusiasm and make the event easy to imagine. There are also some inaccurate or awkward word choices and collocations: “bollywood enrty theme” is unclear, “refresh and feel back that nostalgia” is not idiomatic, and “hitting 10 years of graduation” sounds unnatural. Spelling errors such as “intresting” and “alot” also reduce accuracy. These do not prevent the reader from understanding your plan, but more precise phrasing would make the letter sound more fluent and natural. Aim to check spelling and choose familiar collocations rather than combining words literally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the reason clause “since everyone will meet after long gap” and the relative clause “everyone dresses up according to any iconic character.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “since we had graduated” uses an unnecessary past perfect in this context; “it always bring energy” has a subject–verb agreement error; and “everyone who is willing” should use a plural verb after “who.” Articles and punctuation also need attention, as in “after long gap” and the comma splice in “Sounds fun to me where everyone dresses up.” These are some errors rather than barriers to communication. Review tense choice, agreement, articles and sentence boundaries to improve control.
