Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Smith ,
it's been years since we last met . I hope you will be fine and having great time with your family. I sincerely belived that If we meet again, It will be very nostalgic. However , I am writing this letter to inform you that I am organzing a dinner at my farm house . I have sent invitations to all of our batchmates of session [redacted phone].
Unlike the traditional events I would like to arrange a dinner at my farmhouse because it would be more private and allow us plenty of time together. Also, I arranged night stay there. Morever , after the dinner there would be bonfire too as you know we love to play guitar and singing while having bonfire . I think that it would be more enjoyable . What you will recommend ? .
Last but not least , I certainly required a little financial support from your side regarding the event I am going to arrange. It would be 50 Dollars contribution from your side in the budget. I honestly belive that you will manage this amount and send me prior to the event.
If you ask me to pick you from the airport I will be more than happy. I looking forward to spend quality time with you . Take care and remember me in prayers .
Best wishes ,
John

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you propose a farmhouse dinner, explain that it offers privacy and time together, and ask your friend for a contribution and airport-pickup arrangements. The bonfire and overnight stay also make the plan more specific and relevant to your shared interests. However, some details are not fully clear or developed. For example, “I have sent invitations” suggests the event is already arranged, while the later request for help makes the planning stage less certain. The request for $50 is direct, but you could explain what the money will cover or ask more tactfully. Clarifying the date and inviting your friend to help with a practical task would make the purpose and arrangements more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, a paragraph describing the celebration, and a final paragraph about support and travel. Sequencing phrases such as “Unlike the traditional events,” “Also,” and “Last but not least” help signal the main points. However, some linking is mechanical, and punctuation around these expressions is inconsistent. The transition from the event plan to “What you will recommend?” feels abrupt; a smoother question could invite your friend’s opinion about the arrangements. The closing also combines the airport offer, anticipation, and a personal sign-off without much connection. Use paragraphing and linking more naturally, and make references such as “there” and “this amount” unmistakably clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a suitable range of vocabulary for a friendly letter, including “nostalgic,” “private,” “bonfire,” and “quality time,” and the reader can understand the event you have in mind. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision: “night stay” would be more naturally expressed as “an overnight stay,” and “financial support from your side” is less idiomatic than “a contribution from you.” Spelling errors such as “belived,” “organizing,” and “Morever” also affect the impression of control. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully, especially in key details such as the event plan and request.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, such as “because it would be more private and allow us plenty of time together.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “I looking forward to spend” needs a subject and a corrected verb pattern (“I am looking forward to spending”), while “What you will recommend?” needs question word order (“What would you recommend?”). There are also issues with articles and sentence boundaries, as in “having great time” and the punctuation around “However.” Review question formation, verb patterns after expressions such as “look forward to,” and consistent sentence punctuation to improve accuracy.
