Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Raman,
I am writing this letter to you to invite for the event that i am organising is reunion for all of our friends and other mates of our college graduates it is on 15 march 2027 as the same date of our graduation 10 years ago.
This event is more like fun event with games like singing , dancing and award which suits the title to whom . I feel sometimes sad for us because we graduated same year but after that we all are so busy that we have not enough time for our own friends . reason for this party is to tell everyone that we should meet again if not frequently but 2 or 3 times a year and main reason behind is i miss those precious days in college with my all lucky charms.
To make this in reality, my husband helped me a lot to organise this event . i am hopefull we all meet all again and go back those times of happiness.
Best wishes,
Sandeep kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address the main purpose by proposing a reunion and explaining that it would help former classmates reconnect and remember college. The date linked to your graduation also gives the plan a relevant personal detail. However, the event itself is only partly described: “games like singing, dancing and award” is unclear, and the reason for choosing this format could be explained more fully. The request for help is the least developed part. You mention that your husband has helped, but do not say what assistance you need from Raman, such as contacting classmates, arranging a venue, or planning activities. Make the invitation and your specific request to your friend explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter follows a broadly sensible order: you introduce the reunion, explain its purpose, and then mention organisation. The greeting and sign-off also suit a personal letter. However, most of the content is placed in long, crowded paragraphs, and the first sentence combines the invitation, event type, attendees, and date without clear boundaries. Connections such as “reason for this party” and “main reason behind” are repetitive, while the shift to “To make this in reality” does not clearly introduce a request to Raman. Use separate paragraphs for the event, your reasons, and the help needed, and connect each idea with clear, accurate transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for a reunion, including “celebrate,” “games,” “graduated,” and “precious days,” and the personal phrase “lucky charms” conveys affection for your friends. However, the range is limited and several expressions are unnatural or unclear, which can make the reader pause. For example, “other mates of our college graduates” does not clearly identify the guests, and “award which suits the title to whom” is difficult to understand. “Fun event” and “make this in reality” are also imprecise. Choose more natural collocations and specific terms for the activities and arrangements, such as a reunion dinner, awards ceremony, or contacting classmates.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine ideas using clauses such as “because we graduated same year” and “that we should meet again,” but sentence structures are often incomplete or overloaded. In the opening, “I am writing this letter to you to invite for the event that i am organising is reunion” lacks a clear grammatical structure; a clearer version would be “I’m writing to invite you to a reunion that I’m organising.” Other recurring issues include missing articles and prepositions (“in the same year,” “a reunion”), inconsistent capitalisation of “I,” and faulty verb forms such as “i am hopefull we all meet.” These errors sometimes make meaning difficult to follow. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them into controlled complex sentences.
