Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Bhavna,

This is Sandhya Mehta from LJ University,Ahemndabad. I hope everything is going great as you used to dream about and work on before 10 years. the reason that I am writing this letter to you that, I am organising a reunion party celebration for our Biotech batch 2016 to celebrate our 10 year completion of our graduation.

This is an invitation for you to reunite with everyone from our batch. The venue is TGB located at sindhubhavan. It will going to be a disco night and theam is 90's Bollywood. So, try getting some amazing ideas thet you always used to do during our Uni Feb Festivals.

I was thinking about this from last year and since then, I am trying to catch up with everyone so far so good I have connected with everyone except 2-3 person.

I was looking at out older piucture and then I got this idea that atleast one time in a life I want everyone in the same room that is the only reason of organizing this reunion.

One more thing I need your help in which is, I am not able to connect Bhakti from our group we lost contact after we completed the University. If you are still have any connection with here can you please give me her contact.

Regards,

Yours Sandhya.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you propose a reunion disco with a 1990s Bollywood theme, explain that you want everyone together after looking at old photographs, and ask Bhavna to help reconnect you with Bhakti. These details make the purpose clear and keep the letter relevant. The explanation of why this format would be enjoyable is less developed, however; the reference to ideas from university festivals hints at shared memories but does not explain what would make the event especially suitable for the group. The help requested is also quite narrow, focusing only on Bhakti’s contact details. To strengthen the response, explain more fully why this celebration would appeal to classmates and specify any additional practical help you need.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter follows a generally understandable sequence: you introduce the reunion, describe the venue and theme, explain how the idea arose, and finish with a request. This gives the reader a clear overall sense of your purpose. However, the progression between some points is loose: the invitation, the request for festival ideas, and the account of contacting classmates are presented in separate blocks without clear links. The paragraph beginning “I was looking at out older piucture” repeats the reason for the reunion rather than developing the previous point. Use clearer paragraphing for the event plan, your reasons, and the help needed, and connect related ideas with precise transitions. The closing also feels abrupt after the request.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main plan, including “reunion,” “venue,” “disco night,” and “90’s Bollywood.” Some phrases also convey a friendly, personal tone, such as “catch up with everyone.” However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts less clear or natural: “theam,” “thet,” “piucture,” and “atleast” require correction, while “10 year completion of our graduation” is an awkward expression. “It will going to be” is a grammatical issue rather than a vocabulary one. Aim for more precise collocations such as “ten-year graduation reunion” and “get in touch with.” Proofreading spelling and choosing natural event-related phrases would make the message easier to read.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, for example, “I was thinking about this from last year and since then, I am trying to catch up with everyone.” The main message remains understandable, but errors in verb forms, sentence construction, and punctuation are noticeable. Examples include “It will going to be a disco night,” “the reason that I am writing this letter to you that,” and “If you are still have any connection.” These need forms such as “It is going to be,” “I am writing because,” and “If you still have any contact.” There are also inconsistent capitalisation and sentence starts, including “the reason” after a full stop. Practise accurate clauses and verb patterns, then check each sentence for a complete grammatical structure.
