Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Niya,
I hope every thing is going well with you. I can't believe we had completed ten years since we left college. I miss everyone because after college we never spend time together. I think we should organise a reunion to celebrate our anniversary and get everyone together again.
I would like to arrange dinner party near to our old college. So that we can meet and spend a memorable time together. We could have a nice meal and recall our old memories. We can also arrange some fun game which we used to play during college. It would also be wonderful to see how everyone has changed and hear about their achievements. I am very excited to meet all our old friends.
I will appreciate if you help to organize our anniversary party Because I would be difficult for me to arrange everything by myself. You can search suitable restaurant. Once we have a list of guests, we can send out invitations and organise the food and other arrangements.
Let me know about you thoughts and I look forward to hearing from you
Best wish,
Pooja

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you propose a reunion dinner near the college, explain that it would let classmates reconnect and share memories, and ask Niya to help by finding a restaurant and arranging invitations and food. The purpose and friendly tone are clear throughout, and details such as playing familiar games and hearing about classmates’ achievements make the plan engaging. The explanation of why this format is suitable is relevant, though it could be developed further—for example, by explaining why a dinner is more practical or enjoyable than another type of reunion. The request for help is also clear, but assigning specific tasks and suggesting a date or next step would make the plan more fully supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce the anniversary, describe the proposed event, then ask for help and close. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and links such as “also” and “Once we have a list of guests” help connect related details. The organisation is coherent, but some connections are a little mechanical or unclear. For instance, “So that we can meet” is separated from the sentence before it, and the shift from the event’s benefits to the request for help could be smoother. The closing sentence also combines two ideas without clear punctuation. To strengthen cohesion, connect dependent ideas to their main clauses and use a wider range of natural transitions and clear references.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the reunion plan and its purpose, including “memorable time,” “recall our old memories,” “achievements,” and “invitations.” The language is generally appropriate for a friendly letter, and the reader can understand your meaning. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which limits precision: “spend a memorable time” is less natural than “have a memorable time,” and “old memories” repeats an idea already conveyed by “recall.” There are also noticeable errors in forms and spelling, such as “every thing,” “fun game,” and “Best wish.” Aim to use more natural phrases for social events and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, and most of the message remains easy to follow. For example, “It would also be wonderful to see how everyone has changed and hear about their achievements” combines ideas effectively. Some grammatical errors remain, however. “I can't believe we had completed ten years” uses an unsuitable tense; “I can't believe it has been ten years” would be more natural. In “So that we can meet,” the dependent clause is left as a sentence fragment. Other issues include “I will appreciate if you help” and “it would be difficult for me,” where the sentence structure needs adjustment. Review tense choices, clause construction, and punctuation, while continuing to practise complex sentences.
