Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Vivek,
Hi, how are you? I hope you are doing well and you are surprised with our first conversation after ten years since we graduated from college. I am organising a event on the ocassion of anniversary with our college batchmates and close friends.
I am thinking to pre-book a party auditorium where we can organise our dinner arrangements and big projector and watch our old college time videos and photograph and discuss our best time memories with eachother and get relaxed with our hectic schedules.
I think it will be a great idea for gathering on the ocassion of my anniversary where we will enjoy, and spend some time with our close friends and classmates to get relaxed from our fast paced life, enjoy eachother sense of humour, entertainment and happy past moments.
I really want your help to get things arranged within our timeline as the event is scheduled next weekend.I want you to send a invitation to all our friends and college classmates and give me updates about how many of them are coming and prepare a list so i can plan accordingly.
I am looking forward to meet you at the event after such long time since we left college.
Thank you
Sujal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you propose booking an auditorium, explain that classmates can share dinner and revisit college memories, and ask Vivek to invite people and report attendance. These details make the purpose clear and relevant. The explanation of why this format would be enjoyable is present, but it repeats ideas about relaxing and spending time together rather than developing distinct benefits. The practical request is clearer, though it could be more specific about what Vivek should do and by when. The opening and closing suit a friendly letter. To strengthen the response further, explain the event plan in a little more detail and make the reasons for choosing it more fully supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: greeting and purpose, proposed event, reasons, request for help, and closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and the sequence from planning the celebration to asking Vivek to contact classmates is logical. However, some connections are repetitive or awkward. The second and third body paragraphs both focus on relaxing and enjoying time together, so the progression feels less developed than it could. Phrases such as “on the occasion” recur, while the long sentence describing dinner, the projector, videos, photographs, and memories would be easier to follow if divided into shorter units. Use linking expressions selectively and make each paragraph add a distinct point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the event and its purpose, including “party auditorium,” “projector,” “batchmates,” and “hectic schedules.” There are also attempts to express the social benefits of the reunion. However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “pre-book a party auditorium,” “get relaxed from our fast paced life,” and “enjoy eachother sense of humour.” “Anniversary” is also unclear here because the event celebrates ten years since graduation, rather than your personal anniversary. Spelling and word-form slips such as “ocassion” and “photograph” for plural photographs reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural phrases and check spelling and plural forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the main message remains understandable. The request to Vivek is expressed clearly, and the letter uses appropriate present and future-oriented language. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, verb patterns, and sentence construction. For example, “I am organising a event” needs the article “an,” while “I am looking forward to meet you” should use “meeting.” The opening sentence, “I hope you are doing well and you are surprised,” is awkwardly constructed and does not express the intended meaning clearly. Punctuation is also inconsistent, especially around commas and sentence boundaries. Review article use and verb patterns, and divide long sentences to improve control.
