Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Suresh,
I'm writing this letter to invite you to celebrate one dacade since I left the college. I hope you'r in the pink of health! I'm planning to organise a picnic on this speacial occasion. Although I was not in touch with some of my friends, I'd like to invite all of them.
A picnic would be a great idea to get a break from hectic schedule. I hope, everyone would appreciate the picnic idea. Since It's been ten years, we did not get any opportunity to play football as we used to play in our college time. I want to enjoy playing football and remember the nostalgic memories of our college time.
I'm looking for a suitable place to organise this picnic. Unfortunately, I'm still struggling to find it. I'll appreciate your assistence if you can help me.
I'm looking forward to hear from you.
Best wishes,
Simran

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter covers all three requested points: you propose a picnic, explain that it would offer a break from a busy routine and let classmates play football together again, and ask Suresh to help find a suitable place. The friendly opening and closing also suit a letter to a college friend. The reasons are relevant, but some are only briefly stated; for example, “everyone would appreciate the picnic idea” is an assumption rather than a developed explanation. The request for help is also quite narrow, focusing only on finding a venue. To strengthen the response, explain more specifically what would make the event enjoyable for the group and clarify whether you need Suresh to suggest or arrange a location.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information is arranged in a clear sequence: invitation and event proposal, reasons for the picnic, then the request for help and a closing. Separate paragraphs make the main stages easy to follow, and links such as “Although,” “Since,” and “Unfortunately” help connect ideas. The progression is generally coherent, though some connections feel slightly mechanical or unclear. For instance, “Since It's been ten years, we did not get any opportunity” does not express the relationship between the anniversary and the lack of football clearly. The shift from the general benefit of a picnic to playing football could also be smoother. Use more precise links and make each paragraph develop one connected point.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a friendly invitation, including phrases such as “in the pink of health,” “hectic schedule,” and “nostalgic memories.” These help convey a warm, personal tone, and the intended meaning remains clear. However, some less common expressions are inaccurate or awkward: “one dacade” contains a spelling error, “special occasion” is misspelled, and “appreciate your assistence” uses an incorrect form. “Nostalgic memories” is also somewhat repetitive in meaning. Aim for accurate, natural collocations rather than adding idioms where a simpler phrase would be clearer. Proofreading spelling and word forms would make your vocabulary more controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, such as “Although I was not in touch with some of my friends, I'd like to invite all of them.” Most sentences communicate the intended message, and the paragraphing and punctuation are generally effective. Some grammatical errors remain. In “I'm looking forward to hear from you,” the verb pattern should be “looking forward to hearing.” The sentence “Since It's been ten years, we did not get any opportunity” has an awkward tense relationship; use a present-perfect form to describe the period up to now. Also check capitalization after “Since” and avoid unnecessary commas, as in “I hope, everyone.” More consistent control of verb forms and sentence punctuation would improve accuracy.
