Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Subham,
Its been almost 10 years that we left the college. So, I am writing this letter to invite u for 10 years college anniversary.I was just thinking that how fast time has flown since we graduated so i wanted to bring everyone back and enjoy our valuable time together.
For the celebration,I am planning to organize weekend dinner party. Since we all are now working indiviual we all have jobs and family to handle so i thought to do dinner party on weekends, so that everyone would get chance to attend that party and relive their college days again with friends. Besides that, there will be DJ alongwith group games so that everyone enjoys the song and play games with each other.
I really think this formate is ideal for our group because in college also we use to play that games and listens music on speaker and dance in our college canteen. So, if i arrange this kind of party they will releive their old days again . On top of that, i need to make relaxed enviourment in the party.
Since you are in touch with lots of classmates, I need your help to just reach out to them and invite them to the party and decide the venue.Let me know i you need any kind of help in that process to make the event better.
Looking forward to hear you soon so that we can make event a grand sucess
Warmly,
Dhruv

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requested points and maintain a clear, friendly purpose throughout. The weekend dinner party is specific, and you explain its suitability by noting that classmates now have jobs and families, as well as the chance to revisit college memories through music and games. You also make a practical request for your friend to contact classmates and help decide the venue. These ideas are relevant and supported, which gives the letter a clear sense of purpose. To strengthen the response further, develop the practical arrangements a little more—for example, suggest a date or ask your friend to help estimate attendance. The comment about creating a “relaxed environment” is less clearly connected to a specific plan.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce the anniversary, describe the proposed celebration, explain why it suits the group, and then ask for help. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and links such as “Besides that” and “Since you are in touch with lots of classmates” help connect ideas. The organisation is generally easy to follow, but some connections are repetitive or slightly mechanical: the reason for choosing a weekend dinner is explained more than once, and the paragraph about the party’s suitability shifts to creating a relaxed environment without explaining how. For a stronger, more flexible flow, combine repeated reasons and use clearer links between the event details, its benefits, and the help you need.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the event and its purpose, including “anniversary,” “relive their college days,” “venue,” and “group games.” The tone is appropriately warm for a letter to a friend. However, the range is limited in places, with repeated use of “party,” “everyone,” and “college,” and several inaccurate or misspelled choices reduce precision, such as “formate,” “indivual,” “enviourment,” and “sucess.” Some phrases are also unnatural, including “make relaxed environment” and “enjoys the song.” Aim for more precise event-related wording and check spelling and collocations carefully; this will make the message smoother and more natural without changing its friendly tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and longer sentences, using clauses to explain reasons, as in “Since we all are now working… so I thought…”. The main message remains understandable, but errors in sentence construction and punctuation occur often enough to affect fluency. For example, “Its been almost 10 years that we left the college” needs a more accurate tense and clause structure, while “I was just thinking that how fast time has flown” has an unnecessary “that” before the indirect question. There are also issues with articles and agreement, such as “make relaxed environment” and “everyone enjoys the song and play games.” Practise building complex sentences with one clear linking structure, and check verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries.
