Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Aman,

I hope you are doing well. I can't believe it's a decade we had completed our graduation from college. I was thinking it would be wonderful to organize a reunion party to celebrate this special anniversary with our old friends and classmates.

I think we should arrange a dinner part. For this first we have to contact our former classmates and teachers so that we can discuss about the dat when they have time to join the party, because they are important guest in the event. I will find a good resturant which would be near to our college.

This will help everyone to take a break from their daily schedule and busy lfe. they can enjoy and recall their old memories. they can look their old photographs which reminds them how they were looks at the college time and how much they changed now. Also this will help us to catch our those friends with whom we never met after college.

I need your help to organize this beautiful event. Firtsly you have to make a group of everyone to talk about the date and venue. I will collect all the old pictures of ours friends and classmates and you are good in editing so you will make a slideshows of all. I will book the hotel and food for the specail day. I hope you will help me in this and we will meet all over friends and professors on that day.

Your friend,

Gagan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points and maintain an appropriate, friendly tone for writing to a college friend. The proposed dinner party, the reasons for reconnecting and sharing memories, and the division of tasks—your friend contacting classmates and preparing a slideshow while you arrange the venue and food—make the purpose clear. The explanation of why the event would be enjoyable is relevant, especially the chance to reconnect with people you have not seen since college. Some details are less fully developed: for example, you do not suggest a possible date or explain how you would decide on the final arrangements beyond asking classmates. Adding a little more specific planning would make the ideas more fully extended.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall structure: it introduces the reunion, explains its benefits, and then sets out the help you need. Paragraphing supports this progression, and links such as “Also” and “because” help connect ideas. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. In the planning paragraph, the sentence beginning “For this first” combines contacting classmates, choosing a date, and explaining the importance of guests without a smooth sequence. The repeated use of “This will help” and “they can” also makes the middle paragraph feel list-like. Use clearer sequencing, such as first, then, and finally, and make references like “they” and “this” more precise to improve flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the event and its purpose, including “reunion party,” “anniversary,” “daily schedule,” and “old memories.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “slideshows” and “venue.” However, several spelling errors and inaccurate word choices are noticeable, including “resturant,” “specail,” and “lfe,” and some phrases are not natural in this context, such as “catch our those friends” and “dinner part.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but they limit precision and naturalness. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for organising events and reconnecting with people.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple sentences and longer structures, including a reason clause in “so that we can discuss…” and a relative clause in “with whom we never met.” The overall meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “it's a decade we had completed our graduation” has an inaccurate tense and clause structure; “they can look their old photographs” is missing a preposition; and “photographs which reminds them” has subject–verb disagreement. Capitalisation and punctuation also need attention, as in “they can enjoy” after a full stop and the missing space before “because.” Aim to build accurate sentence patterns first, then use longer clauses with careful checking of tense, agreement, and articles.
