Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Amit,

How are you? I hope everthing is going well with you. Can you believe its been ten yeras since we left college? I am writing to share an idea about orgnaising a reunion celebration for all our college friends and classmates.

I think we should organise a grand reunion party at our college campus, followed by a dinner at a nearest restaurant. We could invite all our classmates and friends and arrange some fun activites, music, games, and a photo session.

I believe this would be a wonderful way to celebrate our tenth anniversary because it would give us an opportunity to reconnect with old friends, share our memories and find out how everyone's life changed. It would also help us strengthen our friendships despite our busy schedules.

I would really appricate your help in organising this event. Could you contact our old classmates and prepare a list of attatence? I will take responsibility of booking the venue, arranging food and managing the decoration.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Akshatha

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The letter addresses all three requirements clearly: you propose a reunion on campus followed by dinner, explain that it would help classmates reconnect and share memories, and specify the help you need with contacting classmates and preparing an attendance list. The purpose and friendly tone are clear throughout, and the practical division of responsibilities makes the request convincing. Your reasons are relevant, especially the chance to learn how everyone’s lives have changed, though they remain fairly general rather than being illustrated with a specific example of what the group might do or remember. To develop the ideas further, add one or two concrete details about the celebration or explain more specifically why the campus setting would be meaningful.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5

The letter is organised in a clear, logical sequence: greeting and purpose, proposed event, reasons for it, request for help, and an appropriate closing. Each paragraph has a distinct function, so the reader can follow the plan easily. Linking phrases such as “because,” “It would also,” and “Could you” help connect the ideas, while the shift from your friend’s tasks to your own responsibilities is clear. The progression is effective, although some connections within the event description are list-like, particularly “music, games, and a photo session.” You could make the flow more natural by linking these activities to the reunion plan in a complete sentence and varying how you introduce supporting points.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a friendly invitation and event-planning letter, including “reunion celebration,” “reconnect,” “strengthen our friendships,” and “take responsibility.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and the tone is appropriate. However, several spelling errors—“everthing,” “orgnaising,” “activites,” “appricate,” and “attatence”—show that written word forms are not yet consistently controlled. There are also a few imprecise or unnatural choices, such as “a grand reunion party” and “a nearest restaurant.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations; for example, “a nearby restaurant” is clearer. Proofreading carefully would help you use your otherwise suitable vocabulary more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the reason clause “because it would give us an opportunity to reconnect” and the conditional request “Could you contact our old classmates…?” Most sentences are easy to understand, and the letter’s meaning remains clear. Some grammatical slips persist: “its been” needs the contraction “it’s been,” and “at a nearest restaurant” has an incorrect article construction. In “find out how everyone’s life changed,” the tense would be more natural as “has changed” when describing developments up to the present. Continue checking contractions, articles, and tense choices, while retaining the varied sentence patterns you already use.
