Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Cheryl,

How are you doing? I hope this letter find you well, I am writing regarding the my intention of wanting to organise our class reunion next month being February. This has always been in mind for a while now due to the fact that it's been over a decade since we last saw each other.

This reuion will be a held in the town we schooled and I intend on making it a weekend getway to insure everyone attends. I plan on booking the hotel where we celebrated our last get togther when we where still in college to to make it even more memorable. Arrival will be on Friday, followed by meet and greet that same day. On Saturday will be more of fun activities which will kick-off with a picnic, games and then end the night with all night party. The followig day which is on a Sunday around 12pm there will be a general meeting, where each and every one of us will share our life experience, taughts , and talks on things that can improve our lifes in one way or the other. After which we will retire to our destinations

All these plans put out cannot be achieved by only me, which is why am seeking your help to help organise this event, as well as seeking financial support on our group chat regarding our reunion.

I am open for any corrections or addition to my above plans,. I look forward to hearing from you, Thank you.

Your sincerely,

Emela.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you propose a weekend reunion, explain that it would be memorable and help everyone attend, and ask Cheryl to help organise it and seek financial support. The detailed Friday-to-Sunday schedule makes the event concrete and relevant. The reason for choosing this format is present, but could be developed more clearly—for example, explain why the former college hotel and shared activities would suit the group. The request for help is also somewhat broad: specify tasks Cheryl could take on, such as contacting classmates, confirming bookings, or coordinating contributions. The letter is appropriate for a friend and maintains a clear purpose, though a more fully explained rationale and more precise request would strengthen it.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a recognisable progression: an opening explains the reunion, the next section outlines the itinerary, and the final paragraphs ask for help and invite a reply. Time markers such as “On Saturday” and “The following day” help readers follow the schedule. However, the long itinerary paragraph contains many activities in one block, so separating the schedule into clearer stages would improve readability. Some links are mechanical or unclear, including “After which” and “All these plans put out”; the latter makes the transition to the request less smooth. The closing also combines several functions in one sentence. More controlled paragraphing and clearer references would make the organisation feel more consistently fluent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for planning a reunion, including “class reunion,” “weekend getaway,” “meet and greet,” “picnic,” and “financial support.” These choices communicate the event’s purpose and activities, and “memorable” helps explain the intended atmosphere. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, such as “reuion,” “getway,” “insure” where “ensure” is intended, and “taughts” for “thoughts.” Some phrases are also awkward or imprecise: “the my intention of wanting,” “a general meeting,” and “plans put out.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, such as “organise a reunion,” “share life experiences,” and “contribute towards the costs.” This would make the vocabulary more precise and reliable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including the explanation beginning “This has always been in mind…” and the schedule sentences using “followed by” and “where.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “I hope this letter find you well” (subject–verb agreement), “This reunion will be a held” (article and verb construction), and “On Saturday will be more of fun activities” (missing subject and article). The sentence beginning “The following day” also has an unclear structure, while “which is why am seeking” omits the subject. Review sentence completeness, articles, agreement, and punctuation, and proofread long sentences by dividing them into shorter, controlled units.
