Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Amina,

I hope you are doing well. I am wiring this letter to inform you that its been ten year we left college. I want to celebrate this event with all my friends and classmates.

As you know, I am a social worker in the NGO which work for children suffering from leukemia. I want to celebrate our 10 year anniversay with these kids. Moreover, we will perform different fun based activites such as musical chair and prepare some theater for these children.

Furthermore, this could be the great way to celebrate this event. My main motive to bering happiness on the faces of these children. As they are living the last stage of lives. So, it is our obligation to do something special for them. This even provide us the opportunity to do something positive which has good impact on society.

Additionally, I need your help in this matter. Give me some suggestions about which singer is best for this event. It is your duty to make a list of guest and inform all our friends and class mates and discuss the venue with them.

I cannot wait to meet you. I am looking farward for your positive response as soon as posible.

Yours Sincerely,

ume Ammara

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you propose celebrating with children at the NGO, explain that the event could bring them happiness and have a positive social impact, and ask Amina to suggest a singer, contact classmates, and discuss the venue. This makes the purpose clear and relevant. The explanation of why this celebration is worthwhile is the strongest part, although the claim that it is an “obligation” could be explained more personally. The event plan and requested help would benefit from clearer detail—for example, who will arrange the activities and what specific tasks Amina should take responsibility for. The response covers the task well overall, but some ideas are less fully developed than others.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression from the anniversary and proposed event, to the reasons for it, and then to the help you need. Paragraph breaks support this structure, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “Additionally” make the stages easy to follow. The closing is also appropriate for a personal letter. At times, however, the transitions feel somewhat formulaic, and the connection between celebrating with college friends and holding the event for the children could be made more explicit. The sentence beginning “As they are living…” is also separated from the idea it explains, which interrupts the flow. Use a few more natural links and connect related points within the same paragraph to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the occasion and its purpose, including “anniversary,” “classmates,” “venue,” and “positive impact on society.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions such as “suffering from leukemia.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “wiring,” “activites,” “bering,” and “farward.” Some phrases are also unnatural or unclear, such as “fun based activities,” “make a list of guest,” and “the last stage of lives.” These issues sometimes make the reader pause, even though the overall meaning remains understandable. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for planning events and describing charitable work.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including “As they are living the last stage of lives” and “which has good impact on society.” The message is generally understandable, but grammatical errors occur across the letter and can sometimes make the reader work to interpret a sentence. Examples include “its been ten year we left college,” where the tense and sentence structure are faulty, and “the NGO which work,” where subject–verb agreement is missing. Articles and plurals also need attention in phrases such as “the great way” and “a list of guest.” Practise forming accurate present-perfect sentences and checking agreement, articles, and plural nouns. More reliable control of these basics would make your varied sentence attempts clearer.
