Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Gaurav
I hope you are doing well, I can't beleive its already been ten years since we graduated from college. I am thinking of organising a reunion party to celebrate this special occasion and I would love your help while organising it.
I am planning to arrange a dinner party at newly open resturant name Zaika eh panjab in waterloo next month. We could invite all our classmate of same batch 2016 and all together we all can enjoy some delicious food, play games at end and share our favourite college memories. It would also be great to have some music and capture those moments.
I believe this would be a wonderful way to celebrate because most of us havenot seen each other for years. It would give everyone a chance to reconnect, catch up on each other lives and relive those unforgettable college days.
However, I will need your helo with few more arrangements. Could you contact our former classmates and creare a Whatsapp group? It would also be helpful if you could call and confirm avaiable days for booking, I will be taking care of decorations and entertainment.
let me know what you think. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone agian.'
Best regards,
Saurav

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You address all three points clearly: you propose a dinner reunion, explain that it will help classmates reconnect and revisit college memories, and ask Gaurav to contact classmates, create a WhatsApp group, and check available booking dates. The event is specific, with a venue and activities, and your friendly tone suits a letter to a college friend. The reason for choosing this format is relevant, though it could be developed further—for example, explain why a shared meal and games would suit the group particularly well. The request for help is also clear, and you distinguish it from the tasks you will handle yourself. Overall, the purpose and key details are easy to understand.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear progression: you introduce the anniversary and proposal, describe the event, explain its value, and then set out the help you need. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and links such as “because,” “However,” and “It would also” help connect ideas. The reader can follow the plan without difficulty. To make the organisation more polished, use punctuation to separate some closely joined ideas: the opening sentence joins two complete thoughts with a comma, and the event paragraph contains several activities in one long sequence. A more deliberate closing paragraph and consistent punctuation around the greeting and sign-off would also make the letter’s structure feel more controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the purpose, including “reunion party,” “reconnect,” “catch up,” “relive,” and “arrangements.” These choices communicate the friendly, celebratory tone, and phrases such as “college memories” are appropriate to the topic. There are, however, some spelling and word-choice errors, including “beleive,” “resturant,” “creare,” and “agian,” as well as the awkward venue description “newly open resturant name.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy and naturalness. Aim to check spelling carefully and choose more idiomatic combinations, such as “a newly opened restaurant called…” and “confirm which dates are available.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, including “because most of us have not seen each other for years” and the polite request “Could you contact our former classmates…?” Meaning remains clear despite some grammatical errors. For example, “I hope you are doing well, I can’t…” joins two independent clauses with a comma; “all our classmate” needs a plural noun; and “catch up on each other lives” needs a possessive form. There are also missing or incorrect articles and verb forms in “at newly open resturant name…” and “I will be taking care of decorations.” Review sentence boundaries, plural and possessive forms, and article use. More consistently accurate sentences would strengthen the control of your varied structures.
