Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Anjali,
I hope this letter finds you in the best of health!!
It has been 10 years since we have left the college. Recently, I have been thinking about our college friends and the beautiful time we all spent together. So, I am thinking that I should organise an event to celebrate this anniversary with all our friends and classmates from college.
I am planning to book a cafe for our event. The cafe will have a stage where anyone can showcase their talent. Also, the event will have breakfast and lunch. There will be couple of comedy performances. After that, we will have time to meet and greet each other. Finally, the event will finish with a powerful performance by famous singer Abhijeet.
I believe that this will be the best way to celebrate our event. We will have enough time to talk to each other and relive beautiful college memories. Moreover, I am planning to invite our college professors for the event.
I need your help in making the arrangements and contacting the contractors. Can you come to me a day before the event so that we can plan and arrange everything properly.
I am so excited to meet you after so long!!
Warm regards,
Tarunjeet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three requirements: you propose a café celebration, explain that it will allow classmates to reconnect and remember college, and ask Anjali to help with arrangements and contractor contacts. The event details—performances, meals, professors, and a singer—make the proposal clear and relevant. The explanation of why this format is suitable is less developed, however: “enough time to talk” and “relive beautiful college memories” are relevant but could be supported with a more specific reason, such as how the programme would bring different classmates together. The request for help is also somewhat broad; specify which arrangements or contractors you want Anjali to handle. The response covers the task well, with some ideas needing fuller development.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter is organised in a clear sequence: opening and purpose, event plan, reasons for the choice, and a request for help. Paragraphing supports this progression, and signposts such as “Also,” “After that,” “Finally,” and “Moreover” help the reader follow the details. The sequence of activities is easy to understand, though the repeated use of “Also” and “After that” makes some linking feel mechanical. The transition from the event description to why it is a good choice is clear, but the final request could connect more directly to the specific plans already described. Overall, the arrangement is coherent; more varied linking and clearer references between the plan and the requested help would make cohesion more flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a friendly invitation, including “showcase their talent,” “meet and greet,” “relive,” and “arrangements.” These choices communicate the event and its purpose clearly. Some wording is repetitive or imprecise, however: “event” appears several times, and “powerful performance” is not a natural way to describe a singer’s appearance in this context. “Contacting the contractors” is also vague unless the reader knows which services you mean. The enthusiastic tone is appropriate, but phrases such as “best of health” and “beautiful time” sound less natural than common alternatives. Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated words while keeping the warm, informal style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, and most ideas remain easy to understand. For example, “I believe that this will be the best way to celebrate our event” and “Can you come to me a day before the event so that we can plan…” show attempts to connect ideas with subordinate clauses. Some grammatical errors remain. In “It has been 10 years since we have left the college,” the past event calls for “since we left college.” In “There will be couple of comedy performances,” an article is needed before “couple.” The sentence beginning “Can you come to me” also needs a more suitable preposition or construction, such as “come over a day before.” More consistent control of tense, articles, and sentence patterns would strengthen accuracy.
