Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Maryam,

I hope you are doing well and having a fun with your respected family. I am writing a letter you to that, I would like to organise an event to cheer up the aniversary with my class fellow from college. Because I miss feeding off the energy of professor and our class students. So, I would like like to organise an event because I wants to see you all of them here.

It is a kind of birthday celebration of my younger daugher. She is going to 8 years old in this year. I shared huge memories we created in college with her. So, she insisted me to invite you all of them and wants to meet you.

On the top of that, I thought it would be a great to celebration in this way. Meanwhile, we meet in this event and also celebrate my little girl birthday.

Lastly, I also want your minor assist in this event, please come on time on venu to help me in decoration.

Your loving friend,

Naseem Javed

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify a reunion as the purpose of the letter and give a reason for wanting to meet, mentioning that you miss the energy of your professors and classmates. You also request help with decorating, so the main points are present. However, the proposed event is unclear: you first describe celebrating the college anniversary, then say it is your daughter’s birthday, without explaining how the two occasions will be combined. The reason for celebrating this way is also only briefly stated, and the help requested is limited to arriving on time to decorate. Develop a clear reunion plan, explain why it suits the group, and specify practical tasks your friend could take on.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The letter has a recognisable opening, body and closing, and the paragraphs broadly move from the invitation to the event and then to your request for help. This gives the reader some sense of structure. However, progression is weakened by abrupt or unclear links, such as “Because I miss…” and “So, I would like like…,” and the shift from a college reunion to your daughter’s birthday is not explained. Connect the ideas in a clearer sequence: introduce the reunion, describe the event and its purpose, then make a specific request. Some linking phrases, including “On the top of that” and “Meanwhile,” do not clearly express the relationship between the ideas that follow them.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the general topic, including “anniversary,” “memories,” “celebration,” and “decoration.” There are also attempts at more expressive wording, such as “feeding off the energy,” although this phrase is not natural in this context. Overall, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or spellings make parts of the letter difficult to understand, including “cheer up the anniversary,” “class fellow,” and “venu.” Choose familiar, accurate expressions for the event and relationship, and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary for reunion activities and organising responsibilities would also help you explain your plan more clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, for example, “She is going to 8 years old in this year” and “So, she insisted me to invite you all of them and wants to meet you.” However, these longer constructions are often faulty, and errors in articles, verb forms, agreement and sentence structure occur frequently enough to make the message harder to follow. Examples include “I am writing a letter you to that,” “I would like like to organise,” and “I wants to see you.” Practise building accurate basic sentences first, then join related ideas with clauses. For instance, use a correct pattern such as “She will be eight this year” and “She insisted that I invite you.”
