Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Garry,

I hope you are doing great. Its been a long time we have not met each other.I have a plan and want to discuss with you that I am thinking to organised an event party with our classmates.I decided to give a name to the party i.e Batch 2016 Opti.

We will have different themes in the party,so that everybody would enjoy.

As our friends are very talented and have various hobbies,so that I planned many shows to participate in the event like music, singing, dancing, poetry ,drawing and modeling and some surprizes and prizes for the winners. We would have food stalls to eat after the party.

Although,I need your help to organise this event like a good dj system, good chef and sitting arrangement so that our friends should enjoy their time ,as this is our first party after our college graduation.

I hope you will help me to organised this event ,also give your suggestions.

Yours faithfully,

Simran

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address all three requested points: you propose a themed reunion party, explain that classmates can share their talents and enjoy activities, and ask for help with the DJ, chef, and seating. The examples of music, dancing, poetry, and prizes make the event idea relevant. However, the reason for choosing this format is only partly explained; saying friends are talented does not fully show why this celebration would be especially suitable or enjoyable for everyone. The help request is also a list rather than a clear division of tasks. Develop these points by explaining what you would like your friend to arrange and how the activities will help classmates reconnect after ten years.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a generally clear sequence: you introduce the reunion, describe the activities, request practical help, and close by inviting suggestions. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “Although” and “as this is our first party” attempt to connect ideas. Some links are awkward or repetitive, however: “so that” is used twice in the same sentence, and “Although” does not introduce a contrasting idea in the paragraph about help. The opening also moves quickly from the greeting to the plan. Use simpler, more accurate transitions and make the relationship between each reason and the event clearer to create smoother progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for a reunion, including “themes,” “hobbies,” “food stalls,” “prizes,” and “sitting arrangement,” so the reader can understand the event you have in mind. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “Batch 2016 Opti.” However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise, including “event party,” “good dj system,” and “surprizes.” Some wording is repeated, particularly “party” and “event,” which limits variety. Choose more natural collocations for organising a reunion and check spelling. For example, “reunion celebration” and “sound system” would communicate your ideas more clearly and appropriately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a reason clause in “as this is our first party after our college graduation.” The main message remains understandable, but errors occur frequently in verb forms, sentence construction, and punctuation. Examples include “I am thinking to organised,” “I planned many shows to participate,” and “I hope you will help me to organised”; these need corrected verb patterns. The opening, “Its been a long time we have not met,” also needs a more accurate tense and clause structure. There are run-on sentences and missing spaces after full stops and commas. Practise accurate forms such as “I’m thinking of organising” and separate connected ideas into complete sentences.
