Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You establish the purpose of the letter by referring to the ten-year anniversary and suggesting a small reunion, so the reader can understand the general idea. However, the response addresses the task only partially: it does not explain why this type of celebration would be suitable or describe what help you need from your friend. The event itself is only briefly mentioned, and the final sentence breaks off at “I think thats the,” leaving the proposal incomplete. The response is also 59 words below the required minimum, which limits the opportunity to develop the three requested points. To improve, complete the event plan, give a reason for choosing it, and make a clear, specific request for assistance.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic sequence: you open with a greeting and personal check-in, then move to the anniversary and the idea of meeting classmates. Phrases such as “First of all” signal a transition, but the letter has no clear paragraphing or developed progression beyond this point. The final sentence is unfinished, so the reader is left without a complete proposal or a closing. Some linking is also awkward, as in “so I thought I would write to you about anniversary of college where we can reunite all together again,” where the relationship between the anniversary and the reunion is not clearly expressed. Use separate paragraphs for the event, your reasons, and the help requested, and finish with a suitable sign-off.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough familiar vocabulary to communicate the basic topic, including “anniversary,” “reunite,” “event,” and “hang out.” The range is limited, however, and some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “on your side,” “about anniversary of college,” and “reunite all together again.” “Organised small event” also does not express the intended plan naturally. These choices make parts of the letter less clear and reduce its suitability as a friendly but purposeful invitation. Aim for more precise collocations, such as “celebrate our ten-year reunion,” “get together with our classmates,” and “organise a small gathering.” Check spelling and word forms, including “at least,” as well as capitalisation of “I.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and joined sentences, for example, “I hope everything is going well” and “so I thought I would write to you,” but control is uneven. Errors include “How have you being?” instead of a correct present-perfect question, and “It has been 10 years since we graduated … and had not seen each other,” where the verb forms do not fit together. Missing articles appear in “about anniversary of college,” and the sentence beginning “Next week is anniversary…” is incomplete. Punctuation and capitalisation are also inconsistent, including the space before the comma in “spoke ,so” and lowercase “i.” Use complete sentences, check verb forms and articles, and proofread punctuation before sending the letter.
