IELTS Writing Task 1 question
It is ten years since you left college. You'd like to organise an event to celebrate this anniversary with all your friends and classmates from college.
Write a letter to one of your college friends. In your letter
• say what kind of celebration event you'd like to organise
• explain why you think it would be good to celebrate in this way
• describe what help you need to organise this event
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Hey Rohan,
How's going? I hope everything going well at your end. I am writting this letter because I want to celebrate our 10th year anniversary, since we graduate.
But I need your support to organise all those things. If you agree on my thought than we have long way to go. As I have a crazy idea, for that we need to send invitation to every one of them, who were part of our journey. I know, it is very hard to find each one, but we can try our best. I already talked with our proffessor called Mr Shah from civil department for the contact list.
My plan is to invite everyone of them at the college so that we can re-enjoy and re-live our old memories. After that we have lunch at our canteen and some games arrangements in the playground. Lastly, we should have some performance of some of the music and dance from our friends like parth and Jigar, they are amazing.
To make these all possible, I need your help for inviting everyone and to arrange food at canteen. Apart from those two I will arrange accomodation and games stuff by myself.
Let's make it real and let me knowif i have missed anything from my side.
See you soon,
Harsh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the three requested points: you propose meeting at college, having lunch and games, and arranging music and dance; you explain that this would help everyone “re-enjoy and re-live our old memories”; and you ask Rohan to help invite classmates and arrange food. The plan is relevant and gives the reader a clear sense of the event. However, the reason for choosing this format is only briefly explained, and some practical details—such as when the event might happen or how invitations will be coordinated—are not developed. The request for help is clear, but could be more specific about what you want Rohan to do. Developing these ideas further would make the letter more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a generally clear sequence: you introduce the anniversary, discuss contacting classmates, describe the proposed activities, and then specify the help you need. Paragraphing supports this progression, and phrases such as “After that” and “Lastly” guide the reader through the event plan. Some connections are less clear or feel mechanical, particularly “If you agree on my thought than we have long way to go,” which does not clearly link your request to the next idea. The opening and closing also feel somewhat abrupt. Use more precise linking phrases and make the relationship between each paragraph’s ideas explicit to improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the event plan, including “invitation,” “contact list,” “accommodation,” “playground,” and “performance.” Phrases such as “re-enjoy and re-live our old memories” convey enthusiasm, though the wording is repetitive. There are noticeable spelling and word-choice problems, including “writting,” “proffessor,” “accomodation,” and “every one” where “everyone” is intended. Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “agree on my thought” and “some performance of some of the music and dance.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for accurate spelling and more conventional collocations when describing plans and requests.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the reader can generally follow the message. However, errors in verb forms, articles, agreement and sentence construction are noticeable. For example, “How's going?” needs a subject, while “I hope everything going well” is missing an auxiliary. “Since we graduate” should use a past form, and “we have long way to go” needs an article. The sentence beginning “As I have a crazy idea, for that…” is also awkwardly constructed, making the connection between clauses unclear. Review basic sentence patterns and past-tense forms, and check that each clause has a subject and a correctly formed verb. More accurate control would make your ideas easier to read.
