Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Lyka,
It's been 10 years since we finished college. I would like to organize a simple get-together with our friends and classmates from our batch. I need your help to give me feedback on some ideas I've been thinking about.
The classmates' reunion event I'm planning is to rent an Airbnb that includes a pool. They can bring their own food to share with everyone. The event will start at 6 in the evening on Saturday, November 15, 2026 that will be saturday to make sure everyone can attend. The program starts with prayer, then dinner. While having dinner, I would like to show some videos and photos of old memories we have shared during our old school days. We can also include some games so it will be more fun and not boring. I also rented out a karaoke I know many of our classmates liked to sing songs.
I think it will be really good to have our private place so whoever cannot drive back home late at night can stay at that place, as we have many available rooms. I think better to connect again on this idea after dinner; we could catch up and talk. The invented games, like Trip to Jerrusalem is classic games; not just our children will enjoy it but also adults.
I just need your assistance to collect photos and videos from our classmates so we can show them during the projector presentation while having dinner. Also, list the names and the food that they will be bringing. I am waiting for your response. See you soon!
Best wishes,
Amy

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three requested points and maintains a clear, friendly purpose. You describe a specific reunion—a rented Airbnb with a pool, shared food, dinner, old photos and videos, games, and karaoke—and explain the appeal of having rooms for classmates who cannot travel home late. You also make your request clear by asking Lyka to collect media and record attendees’ names and food contributions. These details extend the main ideas and make the plan easy to picture. To strengthen the response further, develop the reason for choosing this format a little more: for example, explain how the relaxed setting and activities would help classmates reconnect. The benefit of the games is mentioned, but could also be linked more directly to the reunion’s purpose.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall shape: an opening that introduces the anniversary, paragraphs describing the event and its benefits, and a closing request for help. The sequence of activities—from prayer and dinner to the presentation and games—is easy to follow, and phrases such as “I think” and “Also” help connect points. Some progression is less smooth in the paragraph beginning “I think it will be really good”: the ideas about accommodation, catching up after dinner, and games are placed together without clear links. “I think better to connect again on this idea after dinner” is also difficult to interpret, which interrupts the flow. Use clearer transitions and group the event’s benefits separately from the practical arrangements to make the organisation more consistently controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a personal planning letter, including “get-together,” “reunion,” “available rooms,” “projector presentation,” and “catch up.” These choices communicate the event and its practical details, and the tone is generally appropriate for writing to a friend. There are some imprecise or awkward expressions, however. “I also rented out a karaoke” does not clearly describe the equipment, while “The invented games” is not a natural way to refer to familiar party activities. “Trip to Jerrusalem” also appears to have a spelling error in the game’s name. Aim for more accurate collocations and check spelling, especially for less familiar terms; this will make the description sound more natural without changing its friendly style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response includes both simple statements and longer sentences, such as the sentence explaining that classmates who cannot drive home late may stay at the venue. Most meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors and awkward sentence structures reduce accuracy. For example, “The event will start at 6 in the evening on Saturday, November 15, 2026 that will be saturday” has an unclear relative clause and inconsistent sentence construction. “I think better to connect again” is missing a grammatical subject and verb pattern, and “The invented games … is classic games” has problems with agreement and number. Practise building longer sentences around one clear main clause, and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
