Write a letter to one of your college friends. In your letter

• describe what help you need to organise this event

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Suman,

I hope you and your family are doing well. I'm writing to inform you that I'm planning to celebrate our thenth anniversary since we left our college.

I believe that we should organize a Bollywood themed party in a beautiful restaurant that is near to our college campas. The restaurant would also be decorated as set of a old movie, and the guests would also be supposed to wear costumes of old cinema.

I believe that by celebrating in this particular way, we cannot enjoy the event, but can also spend quality time with our previous classmates and friends. I choose that specific restaurant because we used to visit it a lot, and there are several unforgetable memories related to this place which we call recall again.

I will take care of all arrangements from decorations to cartering department, but I will need your assistance to make the list of guests and to send them invitations. If you have any further suggestions for this event, please feel free to contact me any time. I'm extemely excited to see you all again.

See you soon.

Best wishes,

Harpreet.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you propose a Bollywood-themed party at a restaurant near the college, explain its connection to shared memories, and ask Suman to prepare the guest list and send invitations. The purpose and friendly tone are appropriate for a letter to a college friend, and the event details make the proposal easy to picture. Your explanation of why this format would be enjoyable is relevant, though the benefit of the Bollywood theme itself could be developed more specifically—for example, by explaining how costumes or music would bring classmates together. Overall, the task is fully addressed with a clear plan and supporting reasons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter follows a clear overall sequence: you introduce the anniversary, describe the event, give your reasons, and then explain the help you need. Paragraphing supports this progression, and the opening and closing suit the informal relationship. You also use linking expressions such as “because” and “but” to connect ideas. However, some connections are not fully clear or natural, particularly “we cannot enjoy the event, but can also spend quality time,” where the contrast does not fit the intended meaning. The shift from the restaurant’s memories to the event’s benefits could also be smoother. More precise linking and clearer references would make the cohesion more consistently effective.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including “Bollywood themed party,” “decorated,” “costumes,” “quality time,” and “assistance.” These choices communicate the plan and the requested help, and some phrases show an attempt to be specific. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy, such as “thenth,” “campas,” “unforgetable,” “cartering,” and “extemely.” Some expressions are also awkward or unclear, including “guests would also be supposed to wear” and “memories … which we call recall again.” Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; this would make your vocabulary more precise while retaining the friendly tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause “which is near to our college” and the conditional phrase “If you have any further suggestions.” Most of the message remains understandable, and errors rarely prevent the reader from following your plan. Some grammatical problems are present, however. In “we cannot enjoy the event, but can also spend,” the modal construction and contrast are not correctly formed; “we can not only enjoy … but also spend” would be clearer. “Decorated as set of a old movie” also has article and sentence-pattern problems, while “which we call recall again” is grammatically unclear. Review articles, parallel structures, and clause construction to improve accuracy.
