• explain why you think it would be good to celebrate in this way
• describe what help you need to organise this event
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sara,
How you doing? I am writing this to tell you that our college anniversary is just around the corner and I am planning to celerbrate it in the coming week. Moreover, I have decided to arrange a bollywood themed party in a ballroom. While everyone is all dressed in a costume inspired by their favourite character, we can include numerous game activities as well to capture the attention of all fellows.
Furthermore, I believe this can contribute in the arrangement of memorable event. This is because it can draws everyone's attention and engage them all together for a fun gathering. It can involves everyone in recalling the memories and activities of college time as well.
I require your help in this matter because I can not arrange all this on my own. In addition, you can bring all the board and card games available at your home.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Your friend

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you propose a Bollywood-themed party in a ballroom, explain that it could bring classmates together and prompt memories, and ask Sara to bring board and card games. The event is clearly relevant, and the friendly tone suits a letter to a college friend. The explanation of why this format would work is present, but remains somewhat general: “capture the attention” and “engage them all together” do not explain much about how the theme or activities would make the reunion especially meaningful. The request for help is also quite narrow, focusing only on games. To strengthen the response, develop the reasons with a specific example and ask for another practical contribution, such as contacting classmates or helping with decorations. This would make the coverage more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces the anniversary and proposed event, gives reasons, then makes a request and closes. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “In addition” signal relationships between ideas. However, these transitions can feel mechanical, and some connections are not fully clear. For example, “this can contribute in the arrangement of memorable event” does not smoothly connect the party idea to the explanation that follows. The shift from the general request for help to asking Sara to bring games is understandable but abrupt. Use fewer formulaic connectors and link each paragraph’s ideas more directly, perhaps by explaining how the games will support the reunion. This would make progression more natural and referencing clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including “Bollywood-themed party,” “ballroom,” “costume,” “game activities,” and “memories.” These choices communicate the plan and show an attempt to use more specific vocabulary. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “capture the attention of all fellows” is not a natural way to describe involving classmates, and “contribute in the arrangement of memorable event” is awkward. There is also a spelling error in “celerbrate.” These slips do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to learn common combinations such as “organise a memorable event,” “get everyone involved,” and “classmates,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help express the purpose of the celebration with greater ease.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “While everyone is all dressed…” and explanations introduced by “This is because.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “How you doing?” omits the auxiliary verb, while “it can draws” and “It can involves” use the wrong verb form after “can”; these should use the base form. “I am planning to celebrate it in the coming week” also sits awkwardly with the anniversary being “just around the corner,” and the sentence about everyone being dressed needs clearer construction. Review modal verbs, which are followed by the base form, and check sentence structure and articles. Greater control of these patterns would make the letter smoother while preserving its range.
