Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Navdeep,

I am thrilled to let you know that I would like to organize an event to celebrate our 10th anniversary with our all friends and other classmates from college.

I am thinking to book a banquet hall in local market and it will be very convenient for everyone to reach on time. Moreover, there will be some entertainment activities and After that we would sit together to enjoy a dinner with our all friends.

It will be best opportunity to spend time with our classmates after long period where we can discuss about our future plans as well as we can remember our past memories how we were studying hard to get more marks in finals like we had always a friendly competition to get position in the top ranks.

I will appreciate it if you will help me to organize everything along with me to decorate the hall and you can suggest me what should add more to make unforgettable moment for everyone.

Thank you for understanding.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three requested points: you propose a banquet-hall gathering with entertainment and dinner, explain that it would let former classmates reconnect and recall college, and ask Navdeep to help with decorating and planning. The purpose and friendly tone are clear. The explanation of why this format is suitable is relevant, especially the convenience of the venue and the chance to share memories, but some ideas are less fully developed: for example, you could explain more specifically what activities would make the event enjoyable for the whole group. The request for help is also broad; naming practical tasks such as contacting classmates or arranging food would make it more complete. The response already shows some development, but greater detail and precision would strengthen it.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information follows a sensible order: you introduce the anniversary, describe the proposed event, explain its value, and then ask for help. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “After that” help show how the celebration would unfold. The sequence is generally easy to follow, though some connections are mechanical or unclear. For instance, the long sentence beginning “It will be best opportunity” combines several ideas about reconnecting, future plans, and college memories without clear breaks. The phrase “with our all friends” is repeated, and the closing “Thank you for understanding” does not connect as naturally to the request as a direct invitation to reply would. Clearer sentence boundaries and more varied referencing would make the flow smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the event and its purpose, including “banquet hall,” “entertainment activities,” “friendly competition,” and “top ranks.” These choices show an attempt to be specific rather than relying only on basic words. However, several noticeable word-choice and collocation problems make parts sound unnatural, such as “organize an event to celebrate our 10th anniversary with our all friends,” “spend time … after long period,” and “make unforgettable moment.” “Future plans” and “past memories” also express the ideas, but could be phrased more naturally and precisely. The range is adequate for this familiar topic, yet more accurate combinations and less repetition would improve fluency and clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at longer, more complex sentences, such as the explanation beginning “It will be best opportunity to spend time…” and the request beginning “I will appreciate it if…”. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “I am thinking to book” (use “thinking of booking”), “It will be best opportunity” (an article is needed), and “if you will help me” (use “if you could help me”). The long sentence about discussing plans and remembering college also needs clearer clause structure and punctuation. These errors show that complex forms are being attempted, but greater control of verb patterns, articles, and sentence boundaries is needed for more consistently accurate writing.
