Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Teesha,
I hope you are doing well. I am also fine here. As you know, it's been ten years since we left college. So, I want to celebrate this anniversary with our friends and classmates. I am thinking of organizing a beach party because I still remember that everybody likes the beach.
I also want to explain why I chose a beach party because, as I mentioned earlier, everyone likes beaches, and the outdoors at this time of year is so beautiful. Moreover, our friends can celebrate in the open air, which will help them to relax, and they will have a moment of relaxation.
To organize this event, I would like you to help me with organizing the food because I know you are excellent at cooking. Also, you have an idea of people's tastes. Hope to see you soon.
Kind regards,
Monika

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you propose a beach party, explain that classmates enjoy the beach and could relax outdoors, and ask Teesha to help with food. The purpose and friendly tone are clear. However, the reasons are repeated rather than extended, and the request for help is quite narrow; you could add practical details such as asking Teesha to plan a menu, contact classmates, or help choose a date. The response is also five words below the required minimum, so it needs a little more development. Adding specific details would make the celebration plan more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening and event proposal, a paragraph explaining the choice, and a final paragraph requesting help. The sequence is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Also” help connect ideas. To make the progression more natural, avoid repeating the same reason in adjacent sentences: “everybody likes the beach” is restated as “everyone likes beaches.” The phrase “because, as I mentioned earlier” also makes the connection feel mechanical. You could use the space to move from the general reason to a distinct benefit, then finish with a specific request and a clear next step.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for communicating the event and the request, with relevant expressions such as “anniversary,” “organizing,” “open air,” and “people’s tastes.” The meaning remains clear throughout. However, several words and phrases are repeated, especially “organize/organizing,” “beach,” and “relaxation,” which limits flexibility. Some choices are also less natural or precise: “I am also fine here” is unnecessary in this context, and “they will have a moment of relaxation” sounds awkward. Try using a broader range of natural expressions for the event, its atmosphere, and the practical arrangements. This would make the letter sound more fluent and appropriately varied.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, and most sentences are clear. For example, “I am thinking of organizing a beach party because…” gives a clear reason, while “which will help them to relax” shows an attempt to add a relative clause. Some grammatical choices need attention. In “I also want to explain why I chose a beach party because,” the two reason structures overlap; use either “I chose it because…” or “The reason I chose it is that…”. Also, “the outdoors at this time of year is so beautiful” has an awkward subject–verb relationship; “the outdoor scenery … is beautiful” would be clearer. Continue practising varied sentence structures while checking that clauses connect cleanly.
