Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Bevi,

I hope you are doing well. As you know it has been 10 years since we have graduated from our college. I would like to make the best out of this anniversary by organinsing a house party at my house. Morever, the theme of this party will be gradutaion ceremony, so we all can relive the old times.

Apparantely, this is a good opportunity to catch up with old classmates and friends. Also, everyone can have a break from their hectic work lives. Plus, dressing up in final year suits, attire, dresses can make us all feel like the college students.

Like as always, you are in contact with more graduates from that year than i am. So, i was just wondering if you could help me with the list of names and their contacts information so i can sent the invitaion to them as well. It would be great if you can come to the party two hours earlier than the other guests so we can prepare game activities together. Thanks again.

With regards

Simi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you propose a house party with a graduation theme, explain that it would help classmates reconnect and take a break from work, and ask Bevi to provide contacts and arrive early to prepare games. These details make the plan easy to understand and give the letter a clear purpose. The reasons are relevant, although the benefit of dressing in graduation clothes and the activities could be developed a little further—for example, by explaining how they would recreate a particular college memory. Overall, the response fulfils the task and maintains a clear, appropriate message to your friend.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter follows a clear progression: you introduce the anniversary and proposed event, explain why it would be enjoyable, then move to the help you need. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and links such as “Also,” “Plus,” and “So” make the relationships between ideas clear. The closing request is also easy to follow. Some linking is a little mechanical, particularly the repeated additive transitions, and “Like as always” makes the start of the final paragraph less smooth. Use a wider range of natural transitions and connect related points more directly to make the flow feel less formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for a friendly invitation, including relevant expressions such as “catch up,” “hectic work lives,” “relive the old times,” and “dressing up.” These help convey the celebratory tone. However, several spelling errors—“organinsing,” “gradutaion,” “Apparantely,” and “invitaion”—reduce accuracy, while phrases such as “make the best out of this anniversary” and “final year suits, attire, dresses” are not natural or precise. Choose conventional collocations and proofread carefully. More precise wording for the event and clothing would make the message sound more fluent and controlled without changing its friendly style.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and more complex structures, including “As you know, it has been 10 years since…” and the purpose clause “so we can prepare game activities together.” Most of the message remains understandable, and the requests are expressed politely. Some grammatical errors remain: “Like as always” is not a correct construction, “their contacts information” has a number/agreement problem, and “so I can sent” uses the wrong verb form. The sentence beginning “Plus” also has an unclear list structure. Review verb forms after modal verbs and make noun phrases agree; this would improve accuracy while preserving your range of sentence patterns.
