Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Liaba,
I hope you are doing well! Can you believe it's been ten years we have graduted from college? time is ruuning like horse and we all busy in our life and work.
I am going to organise an event to celebrate our ten-year anniversary this coming Saturday. It is a party with a musical night, and at the end, some food for friends. I would like to book a restaurant near our old campus.
I think this would be good for celebrating this way due to busy life no one has time for this kind of fun and party, so a celebration like this gives everyone a chance of entertainment, and all of us can enjoy this event.
Can you help me contact all our classmates so that I can invite all of them to join this wonderful evening and remember our old class days. This event will be remeberable many years.
I am very grateful to you if you help me in organising of this event.
Yours Sincerely,
Waqas

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you propose a restaurant party with music and food, explain that it would give busy classmates a chance to enjoy themselves, and ask Liaba to contact the class. The purpose and friendly tone are clear. However, the explanation of why this format is suitable is quite general, and the event plan could be more fully developed—for example, you could mention a time, likely costs, or how classmates can confirm attendance. The request for help is relevant, but specifying how Liaba should contact people or what information to share would make it more complete. Overall, the task is covered, though some ideas are less developed than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: greeting and context, event proposal, reason, request for help, and closing. Paragraph breaks help the reader follow these stages, and links such as “so” and “Can you help me” make the relationships between ideas understandable. The organisation is generally effective, but some connections are repetitive or slightly mechanical, particularly the repeated references to a “celebration,” “event,” and “party.” The sentence beginning “due to busy life” also joins the reason and result awkwardly, making the progression less smooth. To strengthen the flow further, use clearer transitions and connect the explanation to the specific choice of a restaurant and musical evening.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main plan and purpose, including “musical night,” “restaurant,” “classmates,” and “entertainment.” The friendly expressions suit a letter to a former college friend. However, the range is limited and some word choices or combinations sound unnatural, such as “time is ruuning like horse,” “busy in our life and work,” and “remember our old class days.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “graduted,” “ruuning,” and “remeberable,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and precise phrasing, such as saying that time “has flown by” and that classmates can “reminisce about our college days.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple sentences and longer structures, and the main message remains understandable. The opening question and the sentence explaining the purpose of the event show some variety. However, some grammatical errors remain, including “it's been ten years we have graduted from college,” where the time expression needs a different structure, and “I am very grateful to you if you help me,” where the conditional form is not well controlled. The sentence beginning “due to busy life” also lacks a clear grammatical connection between its clauses. Pay attention to articles and sentence boundaries as well, for example in “near our old campus” and the long sentence about entertainment. More accurate complex sentences would improve control.
