Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Arnold,

It is been a long day without you my friend, to be exact 10 years since we graduted from college. We have been separated to pursue our dreams; however, I still miss those old days and I would like to organize a reunion to celebrate our friendship along with others from our batch in of the nearby aesthetic resorts. I would like to see everyone and do hangout, dinner, and some fun activities to revive our memories like college life while leaving all of our everyday's hassle behind.

I understand everyone is busy with family, job and responsibilities as now most of us became a father and loaded with responsibilities and no time to do whimsical things. Most of us are connected over social media; however, being a millenial I truely miss physical chitchat rather than those online conversations. I belive you guys also feel the same way as majority of showcased same affection on our chat group. It will be a great opportunity to know ourself again, as most of us are not that connected like we used to be.

To arrange this mammoth task I need your support as doing alone will be impossible. I have planned to announce it in our chat group as this will be the convenient way to reach almost everyone and share the detailed plan of the event. We will take suggestions and finalize things and I need your help with resort booking along with managing a singing group to enlite our evening. I would love to share in person on upcoming weekend over a coffe.

Best regards,

Ashhadd Warsi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three requirements: you propose a reunion at a nearby resort, explain that meeting in person would revive college memories and strengthen friendships, and ask Arnold to help with the booking and entertainment. The purpose and friendly relationship are clear throughout, and the invitation to meet over coffee gives the letter a personal close. Your reasons are relevant and generally extended, particularly the contrast between social-media contact and face-to-face conversation. Some details remain broad, however: “some fun activities” and “managing a singing group” could be made more specific, and the practical plan for the event is not fully explained. Developing those details would make the proposal more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The message is organised in a clear sequence: you introduce the anniversary and event, explain why it matters, then describe the help you need. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “however,” “as,” and “along with” help connect related ideas. The reader can follow the overall plan without difficulty. At times, though, several points are packed into long sentences, especially in the opening paragraph, and some connections feel repetitive, such as the repeated references to responsibilities and being busy. Separating the event details into shorter units and using clearer links between the reason for celebrating and the practical arrangements would make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for a friendly reunion letter, including relevant expressions such as “pursue our dreams,” “physical chitchat,” “revive our memories,” and “detailed plan.” These choices help convey nostalgia and enthusiasm, and the meaning is generally clear. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision: “aesthetic resorts” does not clearly mean a suitable venue, “mammoth task” sounds overly dramatic for organising a reunion, and “enlite our evening” is not the intended form. Spelling slips such as “graduted,” “millenial,” and “truely” also affect accuracy. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling, especially when using less familiar vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses linked with “however,” “as,” and “while,” and the overall meaning remains understandable. Some grammatical errors occur across the letter. For example, “It is been” should be “It has been,” “we graduted” needs the correct past-tense form, and “most of us became a father” has an agreement and number problem. Other examples include “do hangout,” “know ourself,” and “I would love to share in person,” where the verb forms or sentence patterns are not well controlled. Review subject–verb agreement, pronouns, and verb patterns, and break up longer sentences so you can check each clause more reliably.
