Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Oshan,
Hope that you are doing amazing in your life.I am writing this letter to inform you that I am planning to organise an alumni meet event as it has been 10 years since we graduated from our college.
I was planning on a fancy dress theme for our alumni meet party on 4th of decemeber. All our batchmates will be invited, and they have to dress like their favorite TV or gaming character.
It has been so long since we last meet each other and scattered around for better job opportunities. This party would be perfect for us all to bring back those nostalgic memories introduce our famillies to each other.
I would really appreciate if you could help me get into contact with all our batchmates and invite them for this alumni party. Also, I need to book a hall that can hold a capacity of minimum 100 people, any suggestions from you would be helpful.
Kind regards,
Japjeet singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you propose a fancy-dress alumni event, explain that it would reconnect classmates and bring back memories, and ask Oshan to contact classmates and suggest a suitable hall. The purpose and friendly tone are clear. The explanation of why this format would be enjoyable is less developed than the practical requests; for example, you could explain how dressing as favourite characters would make the reunion more entertaining or encourage people to join in. The request for help is relevant, but specifying who will book the hall or how you will coordinate invitations would make the plan more complete. This covers the task well overall, with some ideas already clear but not all extended equally.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce the reunion, describe the theme, explain the reason for meeting, and then ask for help. Paragraphing supports this progression, and phrases such as “This party” and “Also” help connect the ideas. Some links are less smooth: the sentence about bringing back memories and introducing families runs together without clear punctuation, so the relationship between those purposes is harder to follow. The opening also moves quickly from the greeting to the event details. A clearer transition between the event’s benefits and your requests, along with more careful sentence boundaries, would make the cohesion more consistently natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including “alumni meet,” “fancy dress theme,” “batchmates,” and “nostalgic memories.” These choices make the event and its purpose understandable, and “scattered around for better job opportunities” conveys why classmates lost touch. Some expressions are imprecise or less natural in this context: “get into contact” is better expressed as “get in touch,” while “hold a capacity of minimum 100 people” is awkward. There are also spelling errors in “decemeber” and “famillies.” These do not prevent understanding, but more accurate collocations and proofreading would strengthen control of vocabulary and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the reason clause “as it has been 10 years” and the relative clause “a hall that can hold…”. The message remains clear despite some grammatical and punctuation errors. For example, “Hope that you are doing amazing in your life.I am writing” needs a sentence boundary and a space, and “since we last meet each other” requires a past-tense form. In “I would really appreciate if you could help,” the clause needs “it” after “appreciate.” The sentence about bringing back memories and introducing families also needs clearer punctuation or a conjunction. More consistent control of verb forms and sentence boundaries would improve accuracy.
