Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Carlo,
I am writting this letter to inform you that I wanted to organize an event to celebrate our tenth year anniversary with the gang after the long hectic years had passed.
I would like to celebrate the event of which the anniversary of our friendship also to know what happened to the lives of each other. I did reserved us to the place we always go after class and also before we graduate, The Mang Inasal that we always eat our favorite chicken and Halo Halo. We also make sure that one of us only had the green plate and the others are white so we can maximize on the unli rice hack. LOL!
This would be a great place to celebrate and hangout with the friends before we hit the clubs after the dinner. I think that the others wanted this also so they can chill and relax away from the stress they have been dealing. We did not hangout very much nowadays so I wanted to make sure this will be the best night of our lives again by making another round of memories with each other out there.
I just only need you to help me with this because basically, I lost my phone last year so I don't have the contacts of others. You will be the contact person for this so it's your job to call each and everyone so they will know the exact address and time that we will be gathered.
Kind regards,
Julian Kilayko

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you propose a reunion meal at Mang Inasal, explain that it would let friends reconnect and relax, and ask Carlo to contact classmates because you lost your phone. The specific memories about the restaurant and the green and white plates make the event feel personal and relevant. However, the reasons for choosing this format are not equally developed: the restaurant’s significance is clear, but the plan to go clubbing afterwards and the claim that it will be “the best night of our lives” are not explained in much detail. Clarify the event plan and give a little more practical information, such as a proposed date or how Carlo should confirm attendance, to make the arrangements more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce the anniversary, describe the proposed celebration, explain its appeal, and finish with your request for help. Paragraphing supports this progression, and links such as “This would be a great place” connect the venue to your reasons. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and also shows some flexibility in linking ideas. At times, however, the connections are less smooth: the shift from dinner to clubs is abrupt, and “I just only need you to help me” repeats the same emphasis. The long sentence about contacting everyone could also be divided or clarified. Use more precise transitions and keep each paragraph focused on one main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of relevant, personal vocabulary, including “anniversary,” “contacts,” “chill and relax,” and “make another round of memories.” The restaurant details also help convey the informal tone of a letter to a friend. However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “event,” “friends,” and “celebrate,” while some choices are inaccurate or awkward, including “tenth year anniversary” and “the lives of each other.” The spelling “writting” is also noticeable. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main message, but more accurate collocations and a broader set of expressions for reunion plans would make the writing clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the main message remains understandable. However, control is uneven, particularly with verb forms and sentence construction. For example, “I did reserved us” should be “I reserved a table for us,” while “I wanted to organize” would be more consistent as “I want to organize” when describing your current plan. The sentence beginning “I would like to celebrate the event of which…” is difficult to follow because its clauses are not joined correctly. There are also issues with articles and agreement in “the others are white” and “each and everyone.” Practise building clear sentences around one main clause, then check tense consistency and article use.
