Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear friend,
I believe you are doing great in your life. It's been years since we have met and sit together. I am writing this letter to invite you to a nostalgic ceremony or get together on 18th Nov 7 pm at rooftop garden restaurant. All of our batch mates are coming especially our close friends circle and i am sure you would be there too.
The venue and theme of celebration is exactly the same as our previous ceremonies during the the college time. The reason is undoubtedly to honour our cherished memories, storytellings of the past and to share the music.
All of us will share something about our life now comparing it to our past days. I think it will be the great way to recall our college memories.
Moreover, i also need some assistance from you to make this event more wonderful . i request you to bring your camera and capture these moments. These photographs will be
our memories in upcoming years and help us revive these beautiful moments.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three requirements: you propose a reunion at a rooftop garden restaurant, explain that it will revive shared college memories, and ask your friend to bring a camera. The invitation and the reason for choosing a nostalgic theme are relevant and clear. However, the event plan is only partly developed: details such as what the celebration will involve beyond sharing stories and music, or how the friend might help with arrangements, would make the proposal more complete. The request for help is specific, but limited to taking photographs. The friendly purpose is apparent throughout, though a more personal opening and closing would make the letter feel more fully shaped for a college friend.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The ideas follow a generally sensible order: you introduce the reunion, explain its theme and purpose, then make a request. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “The reason” and “Moreover” guide the reader. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “All of us will share something about our life now comparing it to our past days” is not clearly linked to the preceding sentence about memories, and “I think it will be the great way” repeats the same justification. The letter would progress more naturally if the event details and reasons were grouped together, followed by a clearly developed request and a brief closing. Overall, the organisation is coherent, although some linking feels mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a friendly reunion letter, including expressive phrases such as “cherished memories,” “nostalgic,” and “capture these moments.” These choices help convey warmth and the purpose of the event. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural expressions: “storytellings” is not the usual form in this context, “close friends circle” is awkward, and “during the the college time” is imprecise. “Share the music” does not clearly explain what participants will do. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but more natural collocations and precise event vocabulary would strengthen it. Check spelling and word forms, and avoid repeating broad terms such as “memories” when a more specific expression is available.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, for example “The reason is undoubtedly to honour our cherished memories” and “These photographs will be our memories in upcoming years and help us revive these beautiful moments.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. In “It's been years since we have met and sit together,” the verb forms do not match; “since we last met and sat together” would be more accurate. Articles are also missing or incorrect in “it will be the great way,” and the sentence about sharing life now has an unclear grammatical construction. Capitalisation of “i” and punctuation spacing also need attention. Greater control of verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries would improve accuracy.
