Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Brian,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to express my interest in organizing an event to celebrate graduation anniversary with our friends and classmates.

It will be a decade next month since we graduated from Algonquin college. I would like to have reunion style event, which includes games, dance and music.

I believe it will be an opportunnity for everybody to interac and reconnect. In addition, having activities will be a good memories to remember. Therefore, I think this is a good way to celebrate.

Furthermore, I have heard from acquantainces that you own a event management company. In order to execute this efficiently, I need you help with two things. Firstly, recommending a decent hall with 500 people capacity and has space for buffet. Lastly, a enthusiastic host who is able to engage alumni in fun games.

Please feel free to give more suggestions. I am excited to reconnect with 2016 batch.

I will be waiting for your response.

Lovingly,

Ami

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you propose a reunion with games, dancing and music, explain that it would help classmates reconnect, and ask Brian to recommend a suitable hall and an engaging host. The purpose and friendly relationship are clear. The explanation of why this format would be enjoyable is relevant, but remains fairly general; for example, “having activities will be a good memories” does not explain what the activities would help classmates share or remember. The request for help is more specific, although the two needs could be explained more fully, such as the venue’s location or how Brian might assist with booking. The response already covers the task clearly, but fuller development of these ideas would make the letter more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter follows a clear progression from the occasion and proposed event to its benefits and your requests for help. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking expressions such as “In addition,” “Therefore,” and “Furthermore” make the relationships between ideas easy to follow. The numbered requests (“Firstly” and “Lastly”) also help the reader identify what you need. Some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and “Lastly” is less natural than “Secondly” for the second item in a list. The closing sentences are appropriate, though the move from asking for suggestions to saying you are waiting for a response could be smoother. Overall, the organisation is clear; more natural variation in linking and reference would strengthen the flow further.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for this familiar topic, including relevant expressions such as “reunion style event,” “reconnect,” “event management company,” and “engage alumni.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the tone is generally suitable for a friendly letter. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “opportunnity,” “interac,” and “acquantainces” are misspelled, while “a good memories” is an inaccurate phrase. “Execute this efficiently” is understandable but sounds rather formal and unnatural in this context. Aim to check spelling carefully and choose collocations that sound natural in a personal letter. More precise vocabulary for the event and the help required would add flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “a host who is able to engage alumni” and the purpose phrase “In order to execute this efficiently.” Most sentences are understandable, and errors rarely obscure your meaning. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain: “celebrate graduation anniversary” needs an article or possessive form, “a event” should be “an event,” and “I need you help” should be “I need your help.” In “a decent hall with 500 people capacity and has space,” the structure is not parallel; for example, use “a hall with capacity for 500 people and space for a buffet.” Continue checking articles, possessives, and sentence structure while retaining your attempts at complex forms.
