Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Joy,
I'm thrilled to write to you after so many years! The last time I checked you told me you were traveling to another state, hope you later settled in nicely ?
I'm planning our tenth anniversary for 2012/2013 college graduant, and I would like if you could be in atendance.
By organizing this get-together, we will have the opportunity to catch-up on old times and see how we are all doing in our various profession. What's more, this gathering will permit us to exchange contacts,so that we can be able to call and assist each other going forward.
I heard you have deep a experience in event planning, and I'm hoping you could assist me in put things up for the great event, including hiring of a nice event center, the right food and refreshment to order and the right amount to budget for the ceremony.
I look forward to response, and catching up with you.
Best regards,
Victor

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three bullet points: you propose a get-together, explain that it would help classmates “catch-up on old times” and exchange contacts, and ask Joy to help with the venue, food, refreshments, and budget. The purpose is clear and relevant. However, the event itself is not fully specified: for example, you could say whether you envisage a dinner, a reunion party, or another format, and give a little detail about when or where it might happen. The reasons are sensible but remain fairly general, while the request for help is more developed. Expanding the event idea and explaining why this format suits the group would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear overall progression: you open by reconnecting with Joy, introduce the anniversary plan, explain its benefits, request practical help, and close politely. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking expressions such as “What’s more” help connect the reasons. The reader can follow the main message without difficulty. Some connections could be smoother, however: the opening question about Joy’s move is not clearly linked to the reunion plan, and the transition from the benefits to the request is abrupt. A more explicit bridge, such as explaining that Joy’s event-planning experience makes her the ideal person to ask, would strengthen the flow. Check spacing around punctuation to keep the presentation polished.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a friendly letter, including relevant expressions such as “anniversary,” “get-together,” “exchange contacts,” and “event planning.” These choices communicate the purpose and practical arrangements clearly. There are also attempts at more specific vocabulary, but some word forms or collocations are inaccurate: “college graduant” is unclear, “deep a experience” is not natural, and “put things up” does not express organising an event idiomatically. “Various profession” also needs a more suitable form. These errors do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Choose familiar, accurate phrases where uncertain, and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the purpose clause “so that we can be able to call and assist each other.” Most of the message remains understandable, and the main ideas are conveyed despite some grammatical errors. For greater accuracy, revise the opening question, which lacks a clear subject and has an awkward tense sequence, and the request “I would like if you could be in atendance,” where the clause structure needs correction. Other examples include “assist me in put things up” and “I look forward to response,” which show problems with verb patterns and articles. Review sentence boundaries and punctuation as well, particularly the question mark and comma spacing.
